On arrival, what the DPF engineer does

Before anything is touched, the scan is done first.

Ruling out a sensor, glow plug, injector or turbo fault comes first. A DPF warning light is not proof that the filter is the fault, and one of those faults is often present with it.

You are told before any work starts, if that is the cause.
