It may not be the filter whatsoever. That is the first thing. A scan goes before any cleaning, because that same dash light has several possible faults behind it.

- Amber light, vehicle yet driving normally — a long constant run can even now clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you ring anything.
- That window has shut once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not do it now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under the throttle, is the moment to stop arranging long drives and call.
Signs the motor has been showing you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for weeks before it shows:
- less power, particularly pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise like they did
- fuel consumption going worse
- stop/start without a word giving up
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
By itself, none of that is evidence. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
