Mobile DPF Cleaning across Street End and Hampshire

Call-out DPF cleaning travels to the motor. Your motor will not be taken anywhere and the filter doesn't come off. An engineer comes at your address across Street End, clears the diesel particulate filter on the car and runs a DPF regeneration.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the figure is agreed on the phone before anyone leaves.

The light is already on and the vehicle is down on power — that is how we usually find people, and roughly what this page is about.

The DPF light is on. What then?

It may not be the unit at all. That is the first thing. A number of faults put the identical light on the identical dash, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with a clean.

How the vehicle is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.

  • A long constant run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle drives normally. Costs nothing at all, so attempt that before calling.
  • Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
  • Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it seen to.

Before the light, what the motor was warning you

Last news, the light. The symptoms usually build for a while before it arrives:

  • climbing uphill, the power drops away
  • revs that will not climb the way they used to
  • fuel consumption getting worse
  • quietly, the stop/start bows out
  • smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside

Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.

What blocks diesel particulate filters around Street End

For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the type you get across a rural hamlet such as Street End. Run through a normal week: Upham Church of England Aided Primary School and back, Street End at a standstill before half nine, a five-minute run to The Co-operative Food, a hop to Botley. Nothing there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. What should burn off stays put.

Geography does not assist either. The M27 is under 10 miles from Street End and Winchester is under 10 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way routinely, weeks go by without the long steady run that could clear the filter by itself.

The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer run

Limp mode is the car protecting itself. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can not run — which is the real difficulty, because a sustained drive works by triggering that regeneration.

So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, until it is not. The filter requires cleaning rather than driving once the motor has slipped into limp mode.

A clogged DPF cleaned across Street End, Hampshire

The car stays in place for mobile DPF cleaning across Street End

Most people do not anticipate this detail: the filter remains. The job is done with the DPF yet fitted to the motor — on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can sit for a while.

The ECU is interrogated first, reporting soot load by percent and by mass, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and associated hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.

Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the motor's own access point, spreading inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration never can. A second pass is sometimes called for on heavily blocked filters.

Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Street End, with you along, or it runs where the motor waits and the running data is read after.

A second diagnostic confirms the change, puts out the warning light and logs anything still open. Both read-outs are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.

The failures a DPF clean cannot answer

One thing is what cleaning fixes — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • temperature or pressure sensors flagging a restriction that is not there
  • EGR valves that stick open
  • a fault in the AdBlue system
  • injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration completing at all
  • the turbo passing oil into the filter

That is what the first diagnostic is for. Where it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work gets going rather than after you have paid for it.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no fix. What gets searched for as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your own filter is treated in place and goes back into service.

Figures for DPF cleaning across Street End

Treatment starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.

No single flat rate would be straight, so the number is agreed on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. The vehicle changes it, and so does the postcode — Street End, Dean, or somewhere further out in the SO postcode area.

If the scan writes treatment out, there is no charge to pay for it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge even so stands.

A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Street End if the light comes back inside the time.

DPF cleaning performed at a vehicle in Street End

Nic turned up on time and did a thorough clean of the DPF, he was very courteous and explained everything in detail.

Alan B.

Excellent same-day service. Baz, the technician, was very helpful. My van was not drivable. He cleaned the DPF and also fixed the underlying issue that caused it to block in the first place. I'm very happy with the service and can highly recommend DPF Fixer.

Standard E.

Excellent service from Gareth at DPF fixer. Very thorough, gave full and clear explanation of problem, extremely helpful. Worth every penny for peace of mind and sorting problem.

Where we travel around Street End, and what we clean

Private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned in place rather than moved anywhere.

Nearly every week there is already someone on Street End, so Street End hardly ever means a detour, and Dean, Northbrook and the places past Upham come with it. It is the diary, not the distance, that settles whether it is this day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so phone even from farther out across Hampshire.

Street End itself

Street End is a small hamlet in inland Hampshire, situated near the city of Winchester and the South Downs National Park. Street End sits at an elevation of 106 metres, surrounded by rolling countryside and woodland areas, including The Hangers. Street End is characterized by its predominantly detached housing stock and rural setting, with nearby villages like Ashton and Dean.

Questions Street End drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive clear it?
If you spot it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it takes — not ten minutes to The Co-operative Food and back.
How long does the visit run?
Allow typically around 2 hours — badly clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
Across Street End, what does it cost?
A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
Have I have to be present?
A spot for the car to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a monitored drive instead.
Travelling to Street End — how soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the schedule. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the SO area has available.
The filter — does it come away from the motor?
Treated where it is, on this service, so no. Neither lifting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
Suppose the light returns?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Street End.
