The motor has been warning you already
Last news, the light. The symptoms tend to build for a while before it shows:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they used to
- fuel economy turning worse
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under hard acceleration
None of that is conclusive on its own. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is loaded.
