Netley Marsh, Hampshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The vehicle remains in place — mobile DPF cleaning travels to it. No garage, no filter leaving. A fitter comes to your place over in Netley Marsh, clears the diesel particulate filter where it is, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.

You'll know a price by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.

The light is on already and the car is low on power — that is how we generally find people, and what this page is about.

What to check when the DPF light is on

It may not be the unit in the end. That is the first thing. A diagnostic goes before the cleaning, because that same panel light has several likely faults behind it.

How the car is driven in the meantime makes a difference too.

  • Motor still driving as normal on an amber light — have a go at a long even run first. It costs zero and frequently clears the filter without assistance.
  • Once the vehicle is in limp mode, motoring will not touch it. The window has shut.
  • Get it checked rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.

What the motor has been showing you

The light is belated news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have usually been building for some time:

  • power falling off, above all pulling uphill
  • the revs no longer pull the way they used to
  • fuel use that is worse than before
  • a stop/start that has quietly packed in
  • smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car

Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.

Why diesel particulate filters block near Netley Marsh

For a DPF, the worst use is the kind you get in a coastal village such as Netley Marsh. The school run to Netley Marsh Church of England Infant School, Priestlands Close at a crawl at half eight, a few minutes to Morrisons, the hop to Ashurst New Forest — not one bit of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The soot load builds up rather than burning off.

Neither is a long way from Netley Marsh: under 3 miles to the M27, under 10 miles to Southampton. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would empty a filter hardly ever happens.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it

It is self-defence: that is all limp mode amounts to. Power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can not complete — which is the real difficulty, because a sustained drive works by setting off that regeneration.

Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the moment it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are the far side of that line, and the filter wants cleaning rather than road work.

On-site DPF cleaning where the motor stands round Netley Marsh

Most people do not see coming this part: the filter stays put. The job is done with the DPF still fixed to the vehicle — on your front, in a work car park, wherever the car can sit for a couple of hours.

Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That means a check first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a check of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related components.

Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never shift are loosened next, by a solution passed through the entry point on that vehicle, which expands inside the filter. Where the filter is badly loaded, allow for a second pass.

A regeneration comes next, driving off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Netley Marsh; if not, in place where the car waits, with the live data checked after.

Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light cleared, anything still open noted. Both read-outs arrive with you by email, so the numbers are on record.

Where a clean is not the answer

A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean cures. It will not help:

  • pressure sensors flagging a blockage that is not there
  • EGR valves that jam open
  • AdBlue system faults
  • a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

Finding that out is the first scan's whole job. You are told before all work gets going, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.

Two more worth bearing in mind. Getting the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your original filter is cleaned in place and returned into use.

DPF cleaning prices across Netley Marsh

The treatment begins from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.

Naming a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it on the phone, once the motor and its expected needs are established. The place you are matters as much as what you drive: Netley Marsh itself, Ashurst Bridge close by, or farther out in the SO postcode area.

Where the check says cleaning will not help, you are not charged for a clean. What nonetheless holds is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the check was run and the advice was offered.

Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer heads back to Netley Marsh.

Vehicles we clean, and where we reach round Netley Marsh

One call-out service takes in private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

Nearly every week there is usually someone on Priestlands Close, so Netley Marsh hardly ever means a detour, and Ashurst Bridge, Hammonds Green and the spots past Woodlands come with it. It is the diary, not the distance, that settles whether it is this day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring still from even further out around Hampshire.

Things Netley Marsh drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run clear it?
Sometimes, if you spot it early and the car has not slipped into limp mode. It needs a sustained run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to Morrisons and back.
The visit takes how long?
Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes require a second pass, which lengthens it.
In Netley Marsh, what does it come to?
Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the scan and advice on what to do next. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both shift the figure.
Must I be present in person?
The motor needs a place for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Choosing to be there is no problem: the regeneration then is done out on the road, monitored.
How soon can someone travel to Netley Marsh?
Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is normal. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the SO area has available.
Does the filter come away from the vehicle?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is done in place. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
What if the light comes back?
An engineer heads back out to Netley Marsh — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
