Mobile DPF Cleaning around Two Locks and Torfaen

Treating the DPF happens at the car, not at a workshop. A fitter turns up at your door over in Two Locks, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is fixed over the phone before anyone sets off.

Most people find us with the light showing, and the vehicle short of power. That is exactly what this page is aimed at.

DPF light on? What happens next

It might not be the DPF at all. That is the first thing. A check comes before the work, because that same dash light has plenty of candidate faults behind it.

Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.

  • Vehicle still driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and frequently sorts the filter without help.
  • Once the vehicle is in limp mode, motoring will not reach it. The window has gone.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it looked at if the interior stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.

Signs the motor has been giving you

Last news, the light. The symptoms tend to build for weeks before it shows:

  • less power, especially pulling uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not pull like they did
  • fuel economy turning worse
  • without a word, the stop/start packs in
  • a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under acceleration

That is not conclusive alone. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.

What chokes diesel particulate filters around Two Locks

For a DPF, the worst use is the type you meet around a residential suburb such as Two Locks. Not one bit of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, Llwyn Celyn crawling at the morning rush, ten minutes to Sainsbury's, the run to Cwmbran. What should burn away remains.

The M4 stands under 3 miles from Two Locks, Newport under 5 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, entire weeks go by without the long steady run that empties a filter. Geography does not help.

Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. The entire catch is that a sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not rise and power is held down.

So the standard advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, right until it stops being. The filter requires a clean rather than driving once the vehicle has gone into limp mode.

Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated round Two Locks

On your front, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can stand for a couple of hours: the job is done with the filter even now bolted on, which is the part most people do not see coming.

Nothing is started until other faults are cleared. That requires a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and related parts.

Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are freed next, by a cleaning fluid fed through the access port on that vehicle, which expands inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to take doing twice.

Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean freed. That is a monitored drive out of Two Locks if you are present, or a static regeneration where the car sits, with the real-time data checked afterwards.

Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second check is what proves the change, resets the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.

When a DPF clean is not the answer

A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning answers. It will not help:

  • sensors, pressure, showing a restriction that is not real
  • EGR valves that hang open
  • the AdBlue system failing
  • injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting whatsoever
  • oil coming through the filter from a failing turbo

Finding that out is the first scan's purpose. You are warned before all work starts, not after you have handed over, should it turns out to be one of those.

A couple more worth knowing. Having the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleared in place and put back into use.

The price for DPF cleaning across Two Locks

Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.

The figure is agreed over the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be truthful. What you drive and where you are both shift it: Two Locks itself, over at Ty Coch, or farther out in the NP postcode area.

Cleaning that will not do it is not treatment you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. The call-out charge even so stands, because the visit, the check and the advice have been done.

If the light comes back inside that time, an engineer heads back out to Two Locks — the job comes with a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.

The vehicles we clean and the area we cover near Two Locks

The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.

Two Locks is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are working Llwyn Celyn nearly every week, and the same run picks up Ty Coch, St Dials and the spots out past Cwmbran. It is the calendar, not the distance, that decides whether it is this day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call anyway from even further out across Torfaen.

Things Two Locks drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
Sometimes, if you get it early enough and the car has not slipped into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to Sainsbury's and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
Broadly how long does it last?
Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly clogged.
How much does it come to across Two Locks?
The call-out charge covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; the clean itself starts from £299. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the number.
Must I be present in person?
You do not need to stand with it — the motor simply wants a spot to wait for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive if you would sooner be there.
Coming to Two Locks — how soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the calendar. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the NP area has open.
Will the filter be removed?
On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything a job we do either way.
The light reappears — then what?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Two Locks.
