Mobile DPF Cleaning around Tunstead and Lancashire
The car stays where it is — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. A fitter arrives at your door over in Tunstead, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
You'll be given a price by phone before anyone departs, the clean starting from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
Most drivers find us with the light already on, and the vehicle short of power. That is the situation this page is meant for.
DPF light on? What to do
First thing: it is not automatically the unit. Plenty of faults put the same light on the same dash, which is why a visit begins with a diagnostic rather than with a clean.
How the car is handled in the meantime matters too.
- A long even run may yet be enough, provided the light is amber and the motor goes fine. Costs nothing at all, so attempt that before ringing.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Signs the motor has been sending you
Symptoms have normally been mounting for weeks before the light even appears. Belated news, in other words:
- dropping away on power, above all uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they used to
- the fuel economy is poorer
- the stop/start silently bowing out
- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
That is not proof on its own. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
What blocks diesel particulate filters near Tunstead
Tunstead is a residential suburb, and the motoring that belongs to one is the worst type for a DPF. Run through a typical week: Bacup Holy Trinity Stacksteads Church of England Primary School and home, Heath Hill Drive at a standstill before half nine, a five-minute run to Aldi, a run to Walsden. None of it there runs long enough or gets hot enough to see through a regeneration. Soot that should burn away banks up instead.
The map does not oblige either. The M66 is under 5 miles from Tunstead and Manchester is under 15 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, entire weeks slip past without the sustained run that could empty the filter on its own.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode ends it
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. A long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode blocks: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration available.
So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is good advice, right until the day it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that point: a clean is what will do it, not more road work.
On-site DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Tunstead
The filter does not budge. That is the part most drivers do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF even now fixed to the vehicle, on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the car can stand for a few hours.
First a scan. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated components — all of it taken before anything is cleaned.
Then comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the vehicle's own access point, spreading inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration cannot. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to need doing twice.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean lifted. Ride along with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Tunstead. Drop it and the regeneration runs in place, with running data verified once it is done.
Then a second scan, proving the change, putting out the warning light and logging anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
Where cleaning is not the fix
One thing is what a clean answers — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- temperature or pressure sensors showing a block that is not there
- the EGR valve held open
- AdBlue system failures
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting at all
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are told before any work begins, not after you have paid, should it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is exchanged: the filter you already own is cleaned where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.
What DPF cleaning costs across Tunstead
A clean opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
Publishing a flat rate would not be honest. We settle it by phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are clear. Two separate things change it: what you own, and where you are — Tunstead itself, out at Nun Hills, or otherwise out across the OL postcode area.
Where the scan says treatment will not help, you are not charged for cleaning. What even so applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the check was run and the advice was offered.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Tunstead if the light returns inside the time.
Logan fixed my problem quickly and efficiently. I was very impressed with him and DPF Fixer. I will recommend the company in future.

Vehicles we clean, and where we get to round Tunstead
Whatever it is — car, light van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the same mobile service stands, and the filter never leaves it.
The same round that puts technicians on Heath Hill Drive most weeks covers Tunstead, Nun Hills, Rake Head and the villages beyond Cowpe. Phone anyway from further out across Lancashire. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the date you get depends on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Things Tunstead drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- Early enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That requires motorway speed for a steady stretch, rather than a quick trip to Aldi.
- Roughly how long does it last?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly clogged filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
- Cost in Tunstead — what is it?
- Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why quoting goes by phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- No. The vehicle needs a spot to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Wanting to be there is fine: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
- How soon can someone travel to Tunstead?
- That depends on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the OL area has available.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is done in place. Neither getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light returns?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer returning to Tunstead.
