Mobile DPF Cleaning in Tunstall and Lancashire

With mobile DPF cleaning, we come to the motor. No workshop, no filter coming off. A technician comes to your place in Tunstall, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

Nobody sets off until the number is settled on the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.

Most people find us with the light already on, and the motor down on power. That is exactly what this page is written for.

The DPF light is on. What then?

First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. A number of faults put the same light on the same dashboard, which is why a visit begins with a check rather than with a clean.

It matters what you manage with the vehicle between now and the visit.

  • Motor still driving fine on an amber light — try a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and often shifts the filter without a visit.
  • Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not shift it. The window has closed.
  • Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it seen to.

Signs the car has been giving you

Symptoms have normally been mounting for some time before the light even appears. Late news, in other words:

  • less power, particularly pulling uphill
  • the revs no longer climb the way they once did
  • fuel use that is worse than before
  • the stop/start quietly packing in
  • diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box

That is not evidence by itself. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is showing too.

Why diesel particulate filters clog round Tunstall

The motoring that comes with a village like Tunstall is the worst type for a DPF. Think about an ordinary week: Melling St Wilfrid Church of England Primary School and home again, A683 at a standstill before half nine, a five-minute run to Booths, a run to Wennington. None of it there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to see through a regeneration. What should burn off remains.

The M6 stands under 10 miles from Tunstall, Lancaster under 15 miles out, and unless something pulls you out that way regularly, full weeks go by without the long unbroken run that empties a filter. Geography does not assist.

The point a DPF regeneration can no longer run

The vehicle is protecting itself, which is what limp mode means. Power is limited, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer run — which is the whole difficulty, because a proper drive works by triggering that regeneration.

So the common advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, until it is not. The filter needs a clean rather than driving once the car has dropped into limp mode.

Call-out DPF cleaning where the car stands across Tunstall

On your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can stand for a couple of hours: the job takes place with the filter yet fixed on, which is the detail most drivers do not see coming.

Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That requires a scan first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated components.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never budge are freed after that, by a solution put through the access point on that motor, which opens out inside the filter. Severely loaded filters sometimes require a second pass.

What the clean has lifted is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Tunstall if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the live data read once done.

Then a second diagnostic, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and listing anything still logged. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are kept.

When a DPF clean is not the fix

Only one fault is fixed by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does little for:

  • the wrong figure from a temperature or pressure sensor
  • the EGR valve stuck open
  • the AdBlue system failing
  • glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration starting at all
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

The first diagnostic is there for just that. When one of those proves the fault, you hear about it up front rather than once the money has left altogether.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no solution. What gets typed in as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your filter is treated in place and goes back into work.

DPF cleaning charges around Tunstall

Treatment opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.

Once we know what you run, and about what the filter will take, the number gets settled by phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. What you own and where you are both move it: Tunstall itself, across at Cantsfield, or farther out within the LA postcode area.

Where the scan says cleaning will not do it, you are not charged for cleaning. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge even so applies.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer heads back to Tunstall.

Vehicles we clean, and where we get to near Tunstall

The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.

The same trip that has technicians on A683 most weeks covers Tunstall, Cantsfield, Nether Burrow and the villages beyond Melling. It is the diary, not the distance, that settles whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone anyway from even further out through Lancashire.

Questions Tunstall drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive clear it?
Quickly enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Ten minutes to Booths and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for some time, will.
How long does the visit run?
Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily loaded filters sometimes take a second pass, which lengthens it.
What does it come to around Tunstall?
The call-out charge takes in the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself starts from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
Is it essential for me to be there?
Nobody expects you to stand with it — the motor only wants somewhere to sit for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive if you would rather come along.
When can someone travel to Tunstall?
Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is usual. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is open across the LA area.
Is the filter removed from the motor?
Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it stands. We do not lift filters off or fit them back on, either way.
Suppose the light returns?
The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer returning to Tunstall.
