Mobile DPF Cleaning in Threapwood, Cheshire
With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. The fitter pulls up at your door over in Threapwood and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleared on the motor, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
You'll know a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
Written for the state most owners are in: the light on already, the car struggling for power, and the clean still to book.
Your DPF light is lit — what now?
Not the filter, necessarily. First thing to say. That light can arise from a number of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a diagnostic and not with cleaning.
The driving you do in the meantime counts. That is the other thing.
- A long even run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle runs as normal. Costs zero, so attempt that before ringing.
- That window has closed once the motor has fallen into limp mode. Driving will not help now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.
Signs the car has been giving you
Symptoms have normally been building for weeks before the light ever arrives. Last news, in other words:
- dropping away on power, particularly uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they always did
- worse fuel consumption
- quietly, the stop/start gives up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not evidence on its own. It is a fair guess the filter is blocked once the light is there too.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Threapwood
For a DPF, the poorest driving is the type you get in a village such as Threapwood. The school run to Shocklach Oviatt CofE Primary School, Boundary Lane at a standstill at half past eight, a few minutes to Aldi, the hop to Wrexham Central — not one bit of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Instead of burning away, the unburnt soot collects.
Neither is far from Threapwood: under 15 miles to the M53, under 10 miles to Wrexham. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the journey that would empty a filter simply never comes.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. The real catch is that a proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — right up until the day it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are beyond that point, and the filter needs cleaning rather than driving.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Threapwood
Nothing comes off the vehicle. That throws people. The DPF stays bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for two hours or so.
The ECU is read first, showing soot load by percent and by actual weight, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.
A cleaning solution next is injected through the access port on that vehicle, opening out inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to take doing twice.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean freed. Stay with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Threapwood. Drop it and the regeneration goes in place, with running data read once it is done.
A second scan proves the change, resets the warning light and logs anything still open. Both read-outs are sent over, so you keep the before and after figures on record.
Where treatment is not the solution
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing treatment cures. It will not help:
- pressure sensors flagging a block that is not there
- EGR valves that stick open
- AdBlue system faults
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever runs
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
Which is why the check goes first. Where one of those turns out to be the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has changed hands for good.
Cutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a working DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the phrase people look up, though nothing is replaced — your original filter is cleared in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
The cost for DPF cleaning in Threapwood
Any visit takes a call-out charge — coming out to you, setting up the booking, carrying out the diagnostic and passing on the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
The figure is agreed on the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be straight. Two things move it: what you run, and where you are — Threapwood itself, out at Lower Threapwood, or farther out across the SY postcode area.
A clean that will not help is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the diagnostic and gave you the advice.
The clean includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Threapwood if the light returns inside that period.
Engineer was very informative and polite, my car was fixed and I can only assume it will be ok in the future. Good service from this company.
Managed to clean the DPF in my Range Rover Evoque whilst in limp mode and get it back on the road in 2 hours. Ashley was knowledgeable and did a cracking job.
Thank you very much for your service, I would like to say how nice it was to meet Nat and you have an amazing rep in your company very happy with the service i have received.
The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach round Threapwood
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
The same trip that puts our engineers on Boundary Lane most weeks covers Threapwood, Lower Threapwood, Wallington and the villages beyond Worthenbury. Further out around Cheshire is nonetheless worth phoning about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that settles between today and tomorrow.

What Threapwood drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- If you spot it early, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not ten minutes to Aldi and back.
- The visit runs how long?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly clogged.
- What does it come to across Threapwood?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the scan and the advice; the clean itself opens from £299. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
- Is it needed for me to be there?
- The vehicle requires a place for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would prefer to come along.
- Can someone travel to Threapwood soon?
- That hangs on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the SY area has available.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- It is treated where it is, on the on-site service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- The light returns — then what?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Threapwood.
