The Wrangling, Lancashire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we come to the vehicle. A fitter turns up at your place in The Wrangling, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Budget for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, agreed over the phone before anyone leaves.
Written for the position most callers are in: the light showing, the vehicle starved for power, and the clean still to book.
Your DPF light is showing — what now?
Not the unit, automatically. Opening thing to note. A diagnostic comes before any treatment, because that same dash light has several likely faults behind it.
The motoring you get in the meantime matters. That is the other thing.
- A long even run may still do it, provided the light is amber and the motor drives fine. Costs nothing at all, so try that before ringing.
- Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not touch it now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under the throttle, is the stage to stop booking long drives and call.
The vehicle has been showing you already
Symptoms have usually been building for some time before the light so much as arrives. Last news, in other words:
- tailing off on power, especially uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they used to go
- economy that is worse than it was
- the stop/start without a word giving up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not proof on its own. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is on as well.
The cause diesel particulate filters block round The Wrangling
For a DPF, the worst use is the sort you get in a residential suburb such as The Wrangling. Run through a normal week: St Luke and St Philips Church of England Primary School and back, Fawcett Close at a standstill before half nine, a quick trip to Krakow, a hop to Mill Hill (Lancs). Not much there goes on long enough or gets hot enough to finish a regeneration. The soot load collects rather than clearing.
The M65 sits under 3 miles from The Wrangling, Preston under 10 miles away, and unless something takes you out that way routinely, whole weeks slip past without the sustained run that clears a filter. Geography does not assist.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
The car is protecting itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. A proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode rules out: power capped, revs held down, no regeneration available.
Good advice, that motorway run — right up until the day it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are past that stage, and the filter requires treatment rather than driving.
On-site DPF cleaning where the motor stands across The Wrangling
Most drivers do not see coming this detail: the filter remains. The job happens with the DPF yet fitted to the vehicle — on your front, in a work car park, wherever the car can stand for a while.
First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the related hardware — all of it logged before a thing is started.
A solution then is fed in through the entry point on that motor, spreading inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. A second pass is sometimes called for on heavily blocked filters.
A regeneration is next, driving off what the clean has loosened. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of The Wrangling, with you along, or it is done where the vehicle stands and the real-time data is verified after.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change verified, the light reset, anything still open written down. Both reports reach you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing treatment cures. It will not reach:
- temperature or pressure sensors showing a blockage that is not there
- an EGR valve held open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing in the first place
- turbo trouble, with oil reaching the filter
The first check is there for precisely that. You are warned before any work gets going, not after you have settled up, where it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth noting. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is treated in place and put back into use.
DPF cleaning costs across The Wrangling
The clean opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that follows.
Once we are told what you drive, and broadly what the filter will take, the figure gets agreed on the phone. A single price for all would not be straight. Two things shift it: what you own, and where you are — The Wrangling itself, out at Towns Moor, or further out across the BB postcode area.
You are not billed for a clean that the diagnostic says will not work. What nonetheless applies is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the scan was run and the advice was passed on.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer heads back to The Wrangling.

Where we travel near The Wrangling, and what we clean
One on-site service takes in cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is done in place rather than carried anywhere.
The Wrangling is rarely a special trip: our engineers are working Fawcett Close most weeks, and the same run covers Towns Moor, Hollin Bank and the villages out past Pleasington. Further out across Lancashire is nonetheless worth ringing about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that picks between today and tomorrow.

Things The Wrangling drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- Soon enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That requires motorway speed for a steady spell, rather than a short trip to Krakow.
- Roughly how long does it take?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — heavily clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
- Around The Wrangling, what does it cost?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why settling it is done by phone.
- Have I got to be present?
- No. The car wants space to stand for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Ride along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a watched drive.
- When can someone come to The Wrangling?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the BB area.
- The filter — does it leave the car?
- Not on the call-out service — it is treated where it stands. We will not lift filters off or put them back on, whichever way.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- An engineer travels back out to The Wrangling — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
