The Green, Oxfordshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Call-out DPF cleaning goes to the car. No body shop, no filter going anywhere. An engineer drives out to your place over in The Green, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

You'll have a figure by phone before anyone goes, the clean starting from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.

If the light is showing and the vehicle is down on power, this page is the right one. That is how most drivers arrive here.

Your DPF light is on — what next?

The filter is not always what is at fault, and that comes first. A number of faults put the very same light on the identical panel, which is why a visit begins with a check rather than with a clean.

Second thing: how you drive it between now and then counts.

  • A long constant run may still manage it, provided the light is amber and the car runs as normal. Costs zero, so attempt that before calling.
  • Once the vehicle is in limp mode, a long run will not touch it. The window has gone.
  • Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.

What the vehicle has been showing you

Last news, the light. The symptoms generally build for some time before it appears:

  • falling off on power, above all uphill
  • revs that will not rise the way they used to
  • consumption that is worse than it used to be
  • the stop/start quietly packing in
  • a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle

None of that is proof by itself. The light alongside them suggests a blocked filter.

The cause diesel particulate filters clog round The Green

The Green is a rural hamlet, and the driving that belongs to one is the poorest type for a DPF. Run through a normal week: Freeland Church of England Primary School and back, The Green at a standstill before nine, a short hop to Budgens, a dash to Hanborough. None of it there goes on long enough or runs hot enough to finish a regeneration. What should burn off remains.

The M40 stands under 10 miles from The Green, Oxford under 10 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way often, full weeks pass without the long steady run that scours a filter. Geography does not assist.

The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer happen

It is self-protection: that is all limp mode means. With pulling power limited and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter needs can never run at all. That counts, because starting one is just what a sustained run does.

Running it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works right up to a line. Past that stage — limp mode — more driving will not be enough, and the filter needs cleaning.

The filter does not budge. That is the bit most people do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF even now fixed to the vehicle, on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the car can sit for a few hours.

Nothing is touched until other faults are ruled out. That means a check first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and related components.

A solution after that is fed in through the access port on that motor, spreading inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. A second pass is sometimes required on severely clogged filters.

What the clean has loosened is then driven off by a regeneration. Stay with the car and it turns into a monitored drive out of The Green. Park it and the regeneration runs statically, with live data checked once it is done.

A second check verifies the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still open. Both reports are sent over, so you keep the before and after figures to hand.

The problems a DPF clean cannot fix

Cleaning cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • the wrong signal from a temperature or pressure sensor
  • an EGR valve jammed open
  • a failure in the AdBlue system
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever completes
  • turbo failure, with oil reaching the filter

The first scan is there for precisely that. When it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have handed over for it.

A couple more worth bearing in mind. Getting the filter gutted is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleaned in place and returned into use.

Costs for DPF cleaning around The Green

The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.

Quoting a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it over phone, once the car and its expected needs are clear. What you run and where you are both shift it: The Green itself, out at Freeland, or farther out in the OX postcode area.

Where the check says cleaning will not work, you are not billed for cleaning. You even so pay that charge: someone came out, did the diagnostic and gave you the advice.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer comes back to The Green.

Daz was very friendly and helpful. Although the issue with my car was a lot more than the DPF, he helped me understand the problem so I could make an informed decision on where to go/what to do next.

The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover around The Green

The filter is treated where it sits on all of them: cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.

The same run that puts technicians on The Green most weeks picks up The Green, Freeland, Barnard Gate and the places beyond Church Hanborough. Coverage is UK-wide, so even further out around Oxfordshire is nonetheless worth a ring, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

Questions The Green drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive sort it?
It might, provided you catch it early enough and limp mode has not arrived. It wants a sustained run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to Budgens and back.
The visit lasts how long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
What does it cost around The Green?
Beginning from £299, with a charge for coming out that pays for the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the figure.
Is it necessary for me to be around?
No. The vehicle requires space to wait for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive if you would rather ride along.
How soon can someone come to The Green?
That hangs on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is available across the OX area.
Does the filter leave the car?
Treated where it stands, on this service, so no. We will not lift filters off or bolt them back on, either way.
What if the light comes back?
Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to The Green.
