The Common, Hampshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With call-out DPF cleaning, we come to the car. No body shop, no filter coming off. An engineer travels to your address across The Common, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.
Nobody sets off until the number is fixed by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
The light is already on and the car is low on power — that is how we generally find people, and what this page covers.
What to try when the DPF light is on
Not the filter, always. Opening thing to say. That light can follow a number of faults, not just one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with a clean.
How the car is run in the meantime counts too.
- Car even now driving normally on an amber light — attempt a long constant run first. It costs nothing at all and often clears the filter without help.
- Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not touch it now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under the throttle — stop arranging long drives and get it checked.
Signs the vehicle has been giving you
By the time the light shows, things have generally been deteriorating for some time. It is late news:
- dropping away on power, particularly uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull as they should
- the fuel economy is down
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not conclusive on its own. With the light with them, the filter is a fair assumption.
What blocks diesel particulate filters near The Common
The day-to-day driving that goes with a residential suburb like The Common is the poorest kind for a DPF. A regeneration takes long enough and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to Longparish Church of England Primary School, not on Southside Road at the morning rush, not on five minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the dash to Whitchurch (Hampshire). The soot that should burn away builds up instead.
Neither is a long way from The Common: under 10 miles to the M3, under 10 miles to Winchester. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the journey that would clear a filter hardly ever comes.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode means. With pulling power capped and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter wants can never run at all. That counts, because setting off one is exactly what a long run does.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. Beyond that point — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter wants a clean.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands in The Common
Most drivers do not see coming this detail: the filter stays put. The job takes place with the DPF even now fitted to the motor — on your drive, in a work car park, any place the motor can wait for a while.
A check goes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a review of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related components, so other faults are ruled out before a thing is started.
A cleaning solution then is fed in through the access point on that vehicle, opening out inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to need doing twice.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean lifted. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of The Common; if not, in place where the car sits, with the live data checked afterwards.
Then a second scan, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and listing anything still logged. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
Treatment fixes one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- pressure or temperature sensors showing a restriction that is not there
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration completing at all
- turbo problems, with oil entering the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. Where one of those is the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has left already.
Gutting the filter out is not a fix: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the term people search for, though nothing is swapped — your own filter is cleared in place and put back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
Prices for DPF cleaning in The Common
Any visit attracts a call-out charge — travelling to you, taking the booking, carrying out the diagnostic and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
Once we are told what you own, and roughly what the filter will take, the price gets agreed by phone. A single price for all would not be straight. The place you are matters as much as what you own: The Common itself, Forton nearby, or further out in the SP postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for treatment that the diagnostic says will not help. You still pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the check and offered you the advice.
If the light returns inside that window, an engineer comes back out to The Common — the clean carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
Phoned on Thursday they came out Monday to do a dpf clean on my vivaro out side my house. Andras was really helpful and genuinely a really nice polite friendly guy. I would highly recommend this company.
They are very professional in their job. they will come to u and fix your pdf perfectly well. U will not regret using them. i really love their service.
The engineer who came (Daz) was very efficient explained the whole process to me. It was clear he had a great deal of experience on dpf problems and their resolutions. Job well done.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around The Common
The one call-out service covers private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
The Common is rarely a special trip: our engineers are out on Southside Road nearly every week, and the same run covers Forton, Bransbury and the spots out past Middleton. Farther out through Hampshire is still worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that settles between one day and the next.

Questions The Common drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Sometimes, if you get it early enough and the vehicle has not slipped into limp mode. That means motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a short trip to Co-op Food.
- Does the visit run long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily blocked filter can need cleaning twice, which adds time.
- What does it come to around The Common?
- A clean opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the price, so we quote on the phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- The motor requires a place for two hours or so. You need not be in it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be run as a watched drive instead.
- When can someone come to The Common?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the SP area has available.
- Is the filter lifted off the motor?
- Done where it is, on this service, so no. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- What if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer coming back to The Common.
