Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Testwood, Hampshire
Cleaning the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a body shop. No garage, no filter coming off. A fitter drives out to your address over in Testwood, treats the diesel particulate filter as it sits, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the number is agreed over the phone before anyone travels.
Most people find us with the light already on, and the car down on power. That is the position this page is meant for.
The DPF light is on. What then?
The filter is not automatically what is at fault, and that leads. That light can arise from plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a diagnostic and not with treatment.
The use you manage in the meantime matters. That is the next thing.
- A long steady run may still do it, provided the light is amber and the motor goes as normal. Costs zero, so try that before booking.
- That window has closed once the car has fallen into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop planning long drives and call.
The vehicle has been showing you already
By the time the light shows, things have normally been deteriorating for weeks. It is late news:
- power falling off, above all climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise like they did
- the fuel economy is down
- quietly, the stop/start packs in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. Alongside the light, it is a fair bet the filter is full.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Testwood
Testwood is a residential suburb, and the motoring that comes with one is the least kind sort for a DPF. The school run to Oakfield Academy, Hamtun Crescent at a halt at the morning rush, ten minutes to Asda, the run to Totton — not one bit of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The soot builds up rather than clearing.
The map does not oblige either. The M271 is under 3 miles from Testwood and Southampton is under 5 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way routinely, weeks pass without the long unbroken run that might clear the filter by itself.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
The motor is protecting itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. With pulling power limited and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter wants cannot run at all. That tells, because triggering one is exactly what a sustained run does.
Taking it up the motorway is the common advice, and it stands right up to a line. In limp mode you are beyond that stage: a clean is what will do it, not more miles.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is treated in Testwood
On your front, in a work car park, wherever the car can sit for a couple of hours: the job happens with the filter yet fixed on, which is the part most drivers do not see coming.
First a check. Live ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it read before a thing is touched.
A cleaning fluid then goes in through the access port on that vehicle, opening out inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Where the filter is badly loaded, expect a second pass.
What the clean has loosened is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Testwood if you are along, or a static regeneration where the car stands, with the running data checked after.
Finally the check runs again — the change confirmed, the light reset, anything still open noted. Both sets of figures reach you by email, so the numbers are on record.
Where treatment is not the solution
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning answers. It will not touch:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, flagging a blockage that is not real
- a jammed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system problem
- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration completing at all
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. You are told before the work starts, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
A couple more worth bearing in mind. Leaving the filter gutted is not a solution — a vehicle without a working DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.
The cost of DPF cleaning across Testwood
A clean begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the number is agreed over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. Two things change it: what you drive, and where you are — Testwood itself, out at Totton, or further out within the SO postcode area.
Where the check says treatment will not do it, you are not billed for a clean. The call-out charge still holds, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.
The job carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Testwood if the light returns inside that window.
Your fitter, Zac, came at the agreed time and did the work very efficiently outside our house. He explained everything fully and went with me to test drive the car to make sure everything was rectified. Very happy with everything. 10/10.
Daz did a fantastic job, even completing the work in the dark, has been very helpful with explaining what needs to be done to make sure my vehicle doesn't fail.
Absolutely fantastic service from Daniel when he arrived to fix my car, nothing was too much trouble and he took time to explain everything to me, would highly recommend to anyone & would definitely use again. Thank you Dan for a fantastic job.
The vehicles we clean and the area we take in around Testwood
One mobile service covers private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is cleaned in place rather than carried anywhere.
Nearly every week there is already someone on Hamtun Crescent, so Testwood rarely means a detour, and Totton, Brokenford and the places past Ashurst Bridge follow. Further out through Hampshire is even so worth a call — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning around Testwood
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not fifteen minutes or so to Asda and back.
- Broadly how long does it take?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — severely loaded filters sometimes take a second pass, which adds to it.
- Cost across Testwood — what is it?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for coming out that takes in the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you live both shift the price.
- Do I have to be there?
- Space for the motor to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. The regeneration can be run as a monitored drive if you would prefer to ride along.
- How soon can someone come to Testwood?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is normal. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is open across the SO area.
- The filter — does it come off the vehicle?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is done in place. Neither getting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Testwood.
