Mobile DPF Cleaning in Tanhouse, Lancashire
Mobile DPF cleaning goes to the motor. The fitter turns up at your place in Tanhouse and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleared still on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you started with.
You'll know a price by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
Most owners find us with the light showing, and the vehicle low on power. That is the situation this page is meant for.
The DPF light is on. What now?
The filter is not automatically what is to blame, and that leads. A scan happens before any treatment, because that same dash light has several likely faults behind it.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, car yet driving fine — a long even run can yet sort it alone. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you ring anything.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the moment to stop planning long drives and ring.
Before the light, what the vehicle was showing you
The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been growing for some time:
- less power, above all going uphill
- you find the revs fall short of where they always went
- fuel use getting worse
- stop/start silently bowing out
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under hard acceleration
That is not proof on its own. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is showing too.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Tanhouse
Tanhouse is a residential suburb, and the motoring that goes with one is the poorest kind for a DPF. None of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Hillside Community Primary School, Elmstead barely moving at half past eight, a few minutes to Aldi, the dash to Upholland. Instead of burning off, the soot builds up.
Neither is a long way from Tanhouse: under a mile to the M58, under 15 miles to Liverpool. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the drive that would scour a filter never comes.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
The motor is protecting itself, which is what limp mode is. The entire problem is that a proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.
The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, up until it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that stage: treatment is what will do it, not more miles.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands round Tanhouse
Nothing leaves the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can sit for two hours or so.
A scan happens first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and connected components, so other faults are cleared before anything is started.
Then comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the motor's own entry point, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration never can. Where the filter is badly clogged, allow for a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Tanhouse if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the running data checked once done.
A second diagnostic proves the change, resets the warning light and notes anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed, so you have the before and after figures on record.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
Cleaning cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- the wrong signal from a pressure or temperature sensor
- the EGR valve stuck open
- AdBlue system failures
- a regeneration that never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
Which is why the scan happens first. If it proves to be one of those, you are let know before any work gets going rather than after you have paid a penny.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your filter is cleared in place and goes back into use.
DPF cleaning charges around Tanhouse
The cleaning starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that goes with it.
Naming a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it by phone, once the motor and its likely needs are clear. What you drive and where you are both shift it: Tanhouse itself, out at Elmers Green, or farther out within the WN postcode area.
Treatment that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone came out, did the check and gave you the advice.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Tanhouse.
Very professional company, i would highly recommend, the DPF tech who came out went above and beyond in fixing a few problems that he didn't need to making sure the trucks filter worked upon completion.
Liam was excellent, he did a full clean, but was not satisfied and completed it twice more until the readings were to his satisfaction. Pre and post clean customer service also commendable. Vehicle is now back to full health and driving well.
Dave was great and really knowledgeable, was polite enough to call me letting me know his arrival time. He cleaned my dpf in about an hour and even gave me some advice on further maintenance on my BMW. Thanks Dave.
What we clean, and how far we travel near Tanhouse
The one on-site service takes in cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned in place rather than taken anywhere.
Technicians are along Elmstead week in week out, so Tanhouse is hardly ever a special trip, and the same run takes in Elmers Green, Skelmersdale and the places out past Up Holland. Ring anyway from further out through Lancashire. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the slot you get depends on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Questions Tanhouse drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- Sometimes, if you get it early and the motor has not fallen into limp mode. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it needs — not ten minutes flat to Aldi and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — severely blocked filters sometimes take a second pass, which lengthens it.
- How much does it cost in Tanhouse?
- A clean starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you own and where you are both shift the price.
- Must I be present in person?
- Space for the vehicle to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be done as a watched drive instead.
- When can someone get to Tanhouse?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the WN area.
- Does the filter come away from the car?
- Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it is. Neither getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light returns?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Tanhouse.
