The car has been showing you already
The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have usually been mounting for weeks:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they always did
- worse fuel consumption
- quietly, the stop/start packs in
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
That is not conclusive on its own. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is on as well.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Strathmartine
For a DPF, the worst driving is the kind you meet around a rural hamlet such as Strathmartine.
