Rush Bed, Lancashire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF is done at the motor, not at a workshop. The technician pulls up at your address over in Rush Bed and starts. The diesel particulate filter is treated still on the motor, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is fixed on the phone before anyone sets off.
Written for the situation most callers are in: the light on already, the motor short for power, and the visit still to fix.
DPF light on? What comes next
First thing: it is not automatically the DPF. That light can arise from plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a check and not with a clean.
How the motor is run in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Amber light, motor even now driving normally — a long even run can even now shift it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you ring anything.
- That window has gone once the motor has fallen into limp mode. A drive will not help now.
- Get it looked at rather than using it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
What the motor has been telling you
The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been growing for weeks:
- power falling off, particularly climbing uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they used to go
- economy that is worse than it was
- stop/start quietly giving up
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
That is not conclusive on its own. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is there too.
The cause diesel particulate filters block near Rush Bed
For a DPF, the poorest use is the sort you meet around a residential suburb such as Rush Bed. A regeneration takes long enough and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to Crawshawbooth Primary School, not on Crawshaw Drive at half past eight, not on ten minutes to Asda, and not on the hop to Accrington. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning off.
Where you sit does not oblige either. The M66 is under 5 miles from Rush Bed and Salford is under 25 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, weeks slip past without the sustained run that could clear the filter on its own.
DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode stops it
The car is defending itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. Power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can no longer run — which is the entire problem, because a proper drive works by starting that regeneration.
So the common advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, until it is not. The far side of that line — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter wants a clean.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done round Rush Bed
Nothing leaves the motor. That throws people. The DPF sits fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, anywhere it can sit for two hours or so.
A diagnostic comes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts, so other faults are ruled out before anything is started.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning fluid is injected through the entry point on that car and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. A second pass is sometimes needed on heavily loaded filters.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has loosened. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Rush Bed, with you there, or it goes where the car sits and the running data is verified afterwards.
Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing a clean fixes. It will not touch:
- pressure sensors reporting a blockage that is not there
- EGR valves that hang open
- AdBlue system failures
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration running at all
- oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo
The first check is there for precisely that. You are warned before all work gets going, not after you have handed over, if it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it gutted a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
Figures for DPF cleaning in Rush Bed
A call-out charge applies whatever the outcome, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice given. Cleaning itself begins from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it over phone, once the motor and its probable needs are known. A pair of things change it: what you own, and where you are — Rush Bed itself, across at Higher Constable, or otherwise out across the BB postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says treatment will not help, you are not charged for a clean. The call-out charge even so applies, because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Rush Bed.
DPF Fixer booked an engineer out within 24hrs and arrived on time, Andras was very professional, polite and most importantly cleaned my vans DPF thoroughly and got me back on the road with good aftercare advice. Will certainly use them again in the future.
The two who came to fix my car were absolutely wonderful. They did a first class job were friendly and spoke to about what they were going to do. First class.
Thanks Kieran for a prompt and efficient service, also saved me £300 on what the garage were going to charge me.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel round Rush Bed
Cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, farm vehicles — the one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done in place rather than taken anywhere.
Rush Bed is seldom a special trip: our engineers are working Crawshaw Drive most weeks, and the same run takes in Higher Constable, Crawshawbooth and the places out past Rawtenstall. Coverage runs UK-wide, so farther out around Lancashire is still worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

What Rush Bed drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- It can, provided you spot it in time and limp mode has not set in. Ten minutes to Asda and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
- The visit runs how long?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — heavily clogged filters sometimes take a second pass, which extends it.
- Around Rush Bed, what does it cost?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; treatment itself begins from £299. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the number.
- Do I have to be there?
- No. The vehicle wants a spot to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. The regeneration can be run as a watched drive if you would prefer to ride along.
- When can someone travel to Rush Bed?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the calendar. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the BB area has open.
- Is the filter lifted off the car?
- It is treated where it sits, on the mobile service. Nor does taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- And if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Rush Bed.
