Mobile DPF Cleaning around Rede and Suffolk
Treating the DPF takes place at the car, not at a body shop. The fitter pulls up at your door over in Rede and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleared on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
You'll be given a figure by phone before anyone departs, the clean starting from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
The light is on already and the motor is short of power — that is how we generally meet people, and precisely what this page is about.
What to do when the DPF light is on
Not the unit, always. Opening thing to get straight. A check goes before all cleaning, because that same dashboard light has several likely faults behind it.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then counts.
- Worth a shot before you book anything: amber light, car driving normally, just one constant run, no cost.
- That window has closed once the car has slipped into limp mode. A drive will not help now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop planning long drives and book it in.
Before the light, what the car was warning you
The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been mounting for a while:
- power dropping away, above all going uphill
- you find the revs never reach where they once went
- fuel consumption getting worse
- the stop/start silently bowing out
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Choked diesel particulate filters near Rede, and the reason
Being a village, Rede generates precisely the motoring a DPF copes with least well. The school run to Hartest Church of England Primary School, Blacksmith Road at a standstill at the morning rush, a few minutes to Tesco Express, the run to Bury St Edmunds — not one bit of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. What should burn away remains.
The map does not oblige either. The M11 is under 25 miles from Rede and Cambridge is under 25 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that might scour the filter by itself.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
The vehicle is looking after itself, which is what limp mode means. The entire catch is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not rise and power is limited.
So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is good advice, right until it stops being. The filter needs a clean rather than more driving once the vehicle has gone into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the car in Rede
Nothing is taken from the car. That surprises people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work happens around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can wait for a couple of hours.
The ECU is taken first, giving soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a look over of sensor readings, glow plugs and related parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.
A cleaning fluid after that goes in through the entry point on that car, spreading inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. Severely loaded filters sometimes need a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Rede if you are present, or a static regeneration where the motor waits, with the live data checked afterwards.
Then a second check, confirming the change, clearing the warning light and listing anything still showing. Both reports are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not fix
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- temperature or pressure sensors showing a block that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- AdBlue system problems
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
That is what the first scan is for. Transpiring to be one of them means learning it before the work starts, not after handing over for it.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your filter is treated in place and goes back into service.
The cost for DPF cleaning in Rede
A call-out charge holds whatever follows, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice given. Cleaning itself opens from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it by phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are known. Whereabouts you are counts as much as what you drive: Rede itself, Gulling Green close by, or farther out within the IP postcode area.
Cleaning that will not do it is not treatment you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done, the call-out charge still applies.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Rede.
CHECKED THE CAR OVER FOR DPF FOUND A LOT OF SOOT IN FILTER. CLEARED THE FILTER CAR DRIVES A LOT BETTER. WORTH CHECKING.
Excellent service from Gareth at DPF fixer. Very thorough, gave full and clear explanation of problem, extremely helpful. Worth every penny for peace of mind and sorting problem.
Liam the DPF technician really did a good job, my Audi a6 had limited power and after cleaning and changing sensors it was perfect.
Where we get to around Rede, and what we clean
The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Week in week out there is already someone on Blacksmith Road, so Rede seldom means a detour, and Gulling Green, Brockley and the spots past Chedburgh come with it. Farther out through Suffolk is even so worth a call — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that picks between this day and the next.
Rede itself
Rede is a small village in Suffolk, situated on the riverside in the eastern part of the county. Rede sits at an elevation of around 120 metres, with the nearby villages of Pound Green and Gulling Green also located in the area. Rede has a small population of approximately 126 residents, living in predominantly semi-detached housing. Rede is within commuting distance of major cities, including Cambridge, which is 22 miles away.
Common questions on DPF cleaning around Rede
- Will a long drive sort it?
- If you spot it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to Tesco Express and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for a stretch, will.
- The visit runs how long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which adds time.
- In Rede, what does it cost?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we settle it on the phone.
- Is it needed for me to be around?
- Nobody expects you to stand with it — the motor simply requires space to wait for a couple of hours. Ride along if you would rather, and the regeneration becomes a monitored drive.
- Travelling to Rede — how soon?
- You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the calendar. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the IP area has open.
- Does the filter come away from the vehicle?
- It is done where it stands, on the call-out service. We do not get filters off or bolt them back on, in either direction.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Rede.
