Nobs Crook, Hampshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With call-out DPF cleaning, we travel to the vehicle. The engineer pulls up at your door across Nobs Crook and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleared still on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you came with.
Reckon on the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, agreed over the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is on already and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we generally come across people, and roughly what this page is about.
Your DPF light is on — what next?
Not the filter, necessarily. Main thing to say. Several faults put the same light on the same dashboard, which is why a visit opens with a diagnostic rather than with a clean.
The driving you manage in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- Amber light, vehicle still driving normally — a long steady run can still shift it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you ring anything.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, a long run will not shift it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.
Before the light, what the motor was showing you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been slipping for some time. It is last news:
- climbing uphill, the power drops away
- an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
- the fuel use is poorer
- silently, the stop/start gives up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the box
None of that is conclusive alone. It is a fair assumption the filter is loaded once the light is on as well.
Why diesel particulate filters choke near Nobs Crook
The driving that belongs to a rural hamlet like Nobs Crook is the poorest sort for a DPF. Not one bit of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to Colden Common Primary School, Hensting Lane crawling at the morning rush, ten minutes to Nisa Local, the run to Eastleigh. Unburnt soot that should burn off collects instead.
Unless you have a regular cause to drive out to the M3, under 3 miles from Nobs Crook, or across to Winchester under 10 miles away, whole weeks slip past without a long unbroken stint. Geography is unhelpful.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
What limp mode amounts to is the car looking after itself. The entire problem is that a long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is capped.
So the common advice to get it up the motorway is sound advice, up until it is not. The far side of that stage — limp mode — driving will not manage it, and the filter wants cleaning.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle across Nobs Crook
The filter does not budge. That is the bit most owners do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF still fitted to the vehicle, on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can stand for a few hours.
The ECU is taken first, giving soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
A cleaning fluid next is injected through the access point on that car, expanding inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. Where the filter is heavily clogged, expect a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has lifted. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Nobs Crook, with you along, or it runs where the car waits and the running data is checked once done.
Both reports are sent by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, puts out the light and notes whatever is still showing.
The failures a DPF clean cannot cure
Cleaning cures one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:
- a pressure sensor reporting a block that is not there
- an EGR valve held open
- AdBlue system faults
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting whatsoever
- oil passing through the filter from a failing turbo
That is what the first scan is for. You are warned before the work begins, not after you have settled up, where it turns out to be one of those.
Cutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a functioning DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the phrase people search for, though nothing is swapped — your original filter is cleaned in place and put back into use. Two more worth noting.
The figure for DPF cleaning around Nobs Crook
Any visit carries a call-out charge — travelling to you, making the booking, doing the diagnostic and giving the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be honest. We agree it over phone, once the car and its expected needs are clear. Whereabouts you are tells as much as what you run: Nobs Crook itself, Crowdhill close by, or further out in the SO postcode area.
If the diagnostic rules cleaning out, there is not a penny to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the scan and passed on you the advice.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer heads back to Nobs Crook.
Job was carried out on time as requested. After completion I took the truck for a drive and within 1 mile the vehicle went into limp mode. I rang Attila who reattended within the hour reset everything and so far its been fine.
The mechanic technician (Andras) who came for the DPF cleaning was very experienced and highly skilled in his work.
On time. Very professional. Answered all my questions. Car running perfect when finished. The technician was a credit to the company.
Where we get to near Nobs Crook, and what we clean
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Technicians are along Hensting Lane nearly every week, so Nobs Crook is seldom a special trip, and the same run covers Crowdhill, Stoke Common and the villages out past Fishers Pond. It is the calendar, not the distance, that picks whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call even from farther out through Hampshire.

What Nobs Crook drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- Soon enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it takes — not fifteen minutes flat to Nisa Local and back.
- The visit lasts how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can need a second clean, which extends that.
- Cost around Nobs Crook — what is it?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for the call-out that covers the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
- Have I got to be present?
- Space for the motor to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a watched drive instead.
- How soon can someone get to Nobs Crook?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is typical. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the SO area.
- The filter — does it leave the car?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- And if the light returns?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Nobs Crook.
