Newton, Lancashire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. No garage, no filter coming off. An engineer travels to your door across Newton, cleans the diesel particulate filter in place, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Allow for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, fixed by the phone before anyone travels.
Most drivers find us with the light showing, and the car down on power. That is the situation this page is meant for.
The DPF light is on. What now?
Not the unit, always. Main thing to note. Plenty of faults put the identical light on the very same dashboard, which is why a visit starts with a diagnostic rather than with treatment.
The motoring you get in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.
- A long constant run may yet do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle runs normally. Costs nothing, so attempt that before ringing.
- Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not shift it now.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the stage to stop booking long drives and book it in.
The vehicle has been showing you already
Belated news, the light. The symptoms tend to grow for a while before it shows:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they once did
- the fuel economy is poorer
- quietly, the stop/start bows out
- the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
Alone, none of that is conclusive. The light with them indicates a full filter.
Why diesel particulate filters clog near Newton
Newton is a residential suburb, and the driving that belongs to one is the worst sort for a DPF. Not one bit of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Newton Bluecoat Church of England Primary School, Grange Lane standing at the morning rush, a few minutes to Co-Op, the hop to Salwick. Instead of burning away, the soot load builds up.
The M55 sits under 3 miles from Newton, Preston under 10 miles away, and unless something carries you out that way often, entire weeks go by without the long unbroken run that empties a unit. Geography does not oblige.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode amounts to. A proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration possible.
Getting it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it holds right up to a limit. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that point, and the filter wants treatment rather than driving.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands across Newton
Most drivers do not anticipate this part: the filter stays on. The job is done with the DPF even now fitted to the car — on your drive, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can stand for a few hours.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are cleared. That means a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related components.
A cleaning solution then is fed in through the access point on that motor, opening out inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. Heavily blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.
A regeneration comes next, clearing what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Newton; if not, statically where the vehicle waits, with the running data verified after.
Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second check is what proves the change, resets the light and logs whatever is still showing.
Where a clean is not the fix
A clean answers one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, showing a block that is not real
- a jammed EGR valve
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration running at all
- turbo problems, with oil entering the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. If it turns out to be one of those, you are let know before any work begins rather than after you have handed over a penny.
Two things more worth bearing in mind. Getting the filter cut out is not a solution — a vehicle without a functioning DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your existing filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.
DPF cleaning costs around Newton
Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
Naming a flat rate would not be truthful. We agree it on the phone, once the motor and its expected needs are established. The car shifts it, and so does the address — Newton, Clifton, or somewhere further out in the PR postcode area.
Cleaning that will not do it is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done, the call-out charge nonetheless applies.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Newton.
The 2 guys that arrived were very pleasant, thorough and knowledgeable. Quickly diagnosed the issue on my Qashqai and rectified, high price tag naturally but - you get what you pay for! Fantastic work, very thankful.
Andras was very knowledgeable and professional in rectifying the problem with the DPF on my Range Rover Vouge Autobiography, which also involved replacing a throttle assembly.
Mechanic who did the dpf cleaning was really good at his job, explained everything he was doing and gave me some pointers on keeping the dpf cleaner for longer. It is pricey but cheaper than replacing the dpf.
What we clean, and how far we go near Newton
The filter is done in place on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is taken anywhere.
The same trip that puts our engineers on Grange Lane most weeks picks up Newton, Clifton, Treales and the places beyond Newton-with-Scales. It is the diary, not the distance, that settles whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring anyway from even further out around Lancashire.

What Newton drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- Soon enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not five minutes to Co-Op and back.
- How long does the visit take?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly blocked.
- What does it cost across Newton?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for coming out that pays for the check and advice on what to do next. Settling it is done by phone, since what you run and where you sit both change the figure.
- Is it needed for me to be around?
- No. The car requires somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Preferring to be there is fine: the regeneration then runs out on the road, monitored.
- When can someone get to Newton?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is typical. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the PR area has open.
- Is the filter taken off the vehicle?
- Not on the mobile service — it is done where it sits. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on amount to anything a job we do in either direction.
- The light comes back — then what?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Newton.
