The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been growing for some time:
- pulling uphill, the power falls off
- revs that will not climb the way they always did
- worse fuel economy
- stop/start quietly bowing out
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
That is not proof by itself. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
