Monkroyd, Lancashire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. The technician turns up at your door across Monkroyd and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is treated on the motor, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the price is fixed by the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is showing and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we generally come across people, and roughly what this page deals with.
DPF light on? What happens next
It may not be the DPF at all. That is the first thing. That light can arise from plenty of faults, not merely one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with treatment.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then matters.
- Amber light, motor yet driving fine — a long steady run can yet clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you book anything.
- That window has gone once the motor has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not do it now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop booking long drives and ring.
The motor has been showing you already
The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been mounting for a while:
- going uphill, the power tails off
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- worse fuel use
- the stop/start silently giving up
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. The light alongside them points at a blocked filter.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Monkroyd
Being a rural hamlet, Monkroyd generates just the driving a DPF handles the poorest. The school run to Laneshaw Bridge Primary, School Lane at a halt at half eight, a few minutes to Sainsbury's, the run to Colne — nothing of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of burning away, the soot builds up.
The M65 lies under 5 miles from Monkroyd, Bradford under 25 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way routinely, full weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that clears a filter. Geography does not help.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. With pulling power capped and the revs held, the regeneration the filter needs will not run at all. That tells, because triggering one is just what a long run does.
So the standard advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, until the day it is not. Beyond that stage — limp mode — more driving will not do it, and the filter requires cleaning.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle round Monkroyd
Nothing leaves the motor. That throws people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, any place it can wait for two hours or so.
The ECU is read first, showing soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a review of sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated components, so nothing is touched while another fault is still in play.
A cleaning fluid after that is fed in through the entry point on that motor, opening out inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to require doing twice.
A regeneration is next, burning off what the clean has loosened. Come with the car and it becomes a monitored drive out of Monkroyd. Leave it and the regeneration goes in place, with live data read once it is done.
Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light put out, anything still outstanding noted. Both reports reach you by email, so the numbers are on record.
Where treatment is not the answer
A clean answers one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- the wrong signal from a temperature or pressure sensor
- an EGR valve stuck open
- AdBlue system failures
- a regeneration that never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are warned before the work begins, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is swapped: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
The cost for DPF cleaning in Monkroyd
Any visit attracts a call-out charge — coming out to you, making the booking, carrying out the diagnostic and giving the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
Not one flat rate would be truthful, so the number is settled over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. What you own and where you are both change it: Monkroyd itself, over at Wycoller, or farther out within the BB postcode area.
Treatment that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the scan is what says so. The call-out charge nonetheless holds, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Monkroyd if the light returns inside the period.
Thomas was great, explained everything to me so I understood and got my car back on the road. Really informative and gave good advice.
Needed the van urgently for work, they came first thing the next day, ran a full test before and found it didn't need a clean but was the temp sensors that have failed, gave some good advise and left. Quick, pleasant and honest to deal with.
Good service! They cleaned up my DPF and fault diagnosed 2 other issues. I went and ordered a new glow plug relay and air mass sensor. Replaced on arrival. cleared the faults with an OBD and voila! All lights out and my van now runs like a stallion! Happy days.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel round Monkroyd
Cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles — one on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
The same trip that keeps our engineers on School Lane most weeks covers Monkroyd, Wycoller, Cotton Tree and the villages beyond Trawden. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is this day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone still from farther out through Lancashire.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning in Monkroyd
- Will a long drive shift it?
- If you get it early, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. It needs a long run at motorway speed, not ten minutes or so to Sainsbury's and back.
- The visit lasts how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
- Price across Monkroyd — what is it?
- A clean starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
- Have I need to be present?
- Somewhere for the motor to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. Travel along if you would rather, and the regeneration is done as a watched drive.
- When can someone come to Monkroyd?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is normal. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is free across the BB area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- It is done where it sits, on the call-out service. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- The light reappears — then what?
- An engineer comes back out to Monkroyd — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
