Mobile DPF Cleaning across Mells and Suffolk
The vehicle stays in place — on-site DPF cleaning goes to it. A fitter turns up at your door across Mells, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the vehicle, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
You'll have a price by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
Written for the situation most callers are in: the light already on, the car short for power, and the job still to book.
Your DPF light is lit — what then?
Not the DPF, always. First thing to say. A check happens before any treatment, because that same dashboard light has a number of likely faults behind it.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.
- A long steady run may yet manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes as normal. Costs nothing at all, so try that before booking.
- Motor already dropped into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.
What the car has been showing you
By the time the light appears, things have generally been slipping for some time. It is late news:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they once did
- the fuel use is down
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle
None of that is conclusive by itself. The light alongside them indicates a full filter.
Why diesel particulate filters choke round Mells
Mells is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that belongs to one is the poorest kind for a DPF. Run through a typical week: Holton St Peter Community Primary School and home, B1123 at a halt before nine, a quick trip to The Co-operative Food, a dash to Halesworth. Not much there lasts long enough or is hot enough to finish a regeneration. The soot builds up rather than clearing.
The M11 stands over 50 miles from Mells, Norwich under 25 miles out, and unless something pulls you out that way regularly, whole weeks pass without the long steady run that scours a filter. Geography does not help.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it
Limp mode is the car looking after itself. The entire catch is that a sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not rise and power is limited.
So the usual advice to take it up the motorway is good advice, until it stops being. Past that stage — limp mode — road work will not manage it, and the filter wants a clean.
DPF cleaning at the car in Mells
The filter does not budge. That is the detail most owners do not expect: the job happens with the DPF yet bolted to the car, on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can sit for a couple of hours.
The ECU is taken first, giving soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a look over of sensor feeds, glow plugs and related parts, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
Then the cleaning. A solution is fed in through the access port on that vehicle and opens out inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to take doing twice.
A regeneration follows, burning off what the clean has freed. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Mells, with you along, or it goes where the vehicle waits and the real-time data is verified after.
A second diagnostic proves the change, resets the warning light and logs anything still open. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures to hand.
The problems a DPF clean cannot answer
One thing is what treatment cures — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, showing a block that is not real
- the EGR valve held open
- a fault in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration starting whatsoever
- turbo trouble, with oil reaching the filter
Which is why the check goes first. If it turns out to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have paid a penny.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is treated where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it gutted a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth noting.
The price of DPF cleaning across Mells
Each visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, making the booking, running the check and passing on the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
No single flat rate would be truthful, so the figure is agreed by the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. What you drive and where you are both change it: Mells itself, across at Upper Holton, or otherwise out within the IP postcode area.
Where the check says cleaning will not do it, you are not billed for a clean. What even so applies is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the scan was done and the advice was offered.
If the light returns inside that time, an engineer travels back out to Mells — the clean comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
Brilliant! Spoke to someone on the phone and they had availability next day to get me booked in! The issue was solved in a timely manner and I got sent a report detailing everything. Great company! Would defo recommend!
Excellent professional and very useful SCOTTISH bloke Nat was full of knowledge great to deal with and on time superb would recommend to any other garage or customer thanks.

Where we travel near Mells, and what we clean
Whatever it is — car, light van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the same mobile service stands, and the filter never quits it.
The same run that puts engineers on B1123 most weeks takes in Mells, Upper Holton, Halesworth and the villages beyond Holton. It is the schedule, not the distance, that decides whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so phone anyway from farther out through Suffolk.

Things Mells drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I merely take it for a long drive?
- Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the car has not slipped into limp mode. That requires motorway speed for a long stretch, rather than a brief trip to The Co-operative Food.
- Broadly how long does it take?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely loaded filter can require cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Around Mells, what does it come to?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both shift the number, so we quote on the phone.
- Must I be around in person?
- The car wants a spot for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Choosing to be there is welcome: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- How soon can someone come to Mells?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is available across the IP area.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- It is treated where it is, on the on-site service. Nor does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light reappears?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Mells.
