Mobile DPF Cleaning around Medlar, Lancashire
The vehicle sits put — mobile DPF cleaning goes to it. An engineer arrives at your door across Medlar, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the vehicle, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the figure is agreed by the phone before anyone travels.
Most owners find us with the light showing, and the vehicle low on power. That is the situation this page is meant for.
DPF light on? What comes next
It might not be the filter in the end. That is the opening thing. Plenty of faults put the very same light on the identical panel, which is why a visit begins with a check rather than with treatment.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then matters.
- Amber light, vehicle even now driving normally — a long constant run can yet sort it by itself. Costs zero, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has already closed.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the stage to stop planning long drives and call.
What the vehicle has been telling you
The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been building for weeks:
- power dropping away, particularly pulling uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they always did
- the fuel consumption is down
- silently, the stop/start bows out
- the car smelling of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
None of that is evidence on its own. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair guess.
The reason diesel particulate filters block round Medlar
Medlar is a rural hamlet, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the worst type for a DPF. A regeneration wants the time and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Medlar-with-Wesham, not on Medlar Lane at the morning rush, not on five minutes to Aldi, and not on the run to Kirkham & Wesham. Instead of burning away, the unburnt soot builds up.
Geography does not help either. The M55 is under a mile from Medlar and Preston is under 10 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way routinely, whole weeks pass without the long unbroken run that would clear the filter by itself.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode means. With power held down and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter wants cannot happen at all. That counts, because triggering one is exactly what a long run does.
Taking it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it works as far as a limit. In limp mode you are past that line: a clean is what will do it, not more road work.
The vehicle stays where it is for mobile DPF cleaning across Medlar
On your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can wait for a while: the job is done with the filter yet fitted on, which is the detail most people do not anticipate.
First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a figure, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it logged before a thing is touched.
A cleaning fluid after that goes in through the access point on that car, spreading inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Where the filter is heavily loaded, allow for a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Medlar; if not, statically where the motor sits, with the running data checked afterwards.
Both reports are sent by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second scan is what confirms the change, clears the light and lists whatever is still open.
Where a clean is not the answer
One thing is what a clean fixes — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, flagging a restriction that is not real
- an EGR valve jammed open
- a fault in the AdBlue system
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
That is what the first scan is for. When one of those turns out to be the fault, you hear about it at the outset rather than once the money has changed hands for good.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is swapped: the filter you own is treated where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.
Figures for DPF cleaning around Medlar
Treatment starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Once we are told what you run, and about what the filter will need, the price gets fixed over phone. A single price for everyone would not be honest. Two things shift it: what you own, and where you are — Medlar itself, out at Greenhalgh, or farther out in the PR postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says a clean will not help, you are not asked to pay for a clean. The call-out charge still stands, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.
The work includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Medlar if the light returns inside that period.
I called and within a couple of hours my car that could barely move was driving like new again. Really quick, friendly and professional service. Very happy with the service I received.
Great company, technician came out same day as I reported the issue. Fair price. Liam the technician explained everything, the process and after care to prevent issue happening in future. Highly recommend. Many thanks. Ben.
Big thank you to the mechanic who came out to clean my DPF. He was extremely knowledgeable, incredibly helpful, and provided an amazing customer service experience from start to finish. Highly recommend!
The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover near Medlar
One call-out service covers cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than taken anywhere.
Nearly every week there is already someone on Medlar Lane, so Medlar rarely means a detour, and Greenhalgh, Elswick Leys and the places past Esprick come with it. Call anyway from farther out through Lancashire. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the date you are given hangs on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning around Medlar
- Can I merely take it for a long drive?
- Early enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it wants — not ten minutes flat to Aldi and back.
- Does the visit run long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can require a second clean, which extends that.
- How much does it come to around Medlar?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself starts from £299. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you sit both change the number.
- Do I have to be there?
- No. The motor wants space to wait for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Wanting to be there is fine: the regeneration then runs out on the move, monitored.
- When can someone get to Medlar?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is typical. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the PR area.
- The filter — does it come off the motor?
- Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it is. We do not get filters off or fit them back on, either way.
- And if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Medlar.
