Mobile DPF Cleaner

Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Lumb, Lancashire

The car remains put — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. Your car will not be taken off and the filter doesn't budge. An engineer turns up at your door over in Lumb, clears the diesel particulate filter still on the motor and performs a DPF regeneration.

You'll be given a number by phone before anyone leaves, the clean starting from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.

If the light is showing and the vehicle is short of power, this page is for you. That is how most people arrive here.

The DPF light is on. What next?

The DPF is not automatically what is wrong, and that leads. Treatment is not where a visit begins. A scan is — plenty of faults appear as the same light.

It matters what you manage with the vehicle between now and the booking.

  • Worth a go before you ring anything: amber light, vehicle driving as normal, just one steady run, no charge.
  • Car already dropped into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
  • A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the point to stop planning long drives and ring.

What the motor has been telling you

By the time the light arrives, things have generally been slipping for weeks. It is late news:

  • climbing uphill, the power drops away
  • an engine whose revs will not climb as before
  • worse fuel use
  • a stop/start that has silently given up
  • the interior reeking of diesel, or smoke when you press on

That is not evidence alone. With the light with them, the filter is a fair bet.

Why diesel particulate filters block around Lumb

For a DPF, the worst use is the type you get across a residential suburb such as Lumb. The school run to Water Primary School, Peers Clough Road at a standstill at half past eight, five minutes to Spar, the hop to Burnley Manchester Road — nothing of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Soot that should burn off collects instead.

The M66 sits under 5 miles from Lumb, Manchester under 25 miles off, and unless something carries you out that way regularly, full weeks pass without the sustained run that scours a DPF. Geography does not assist.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out

The motor is looking after itself, which is what limp mode means. With power limited and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter needs will not run at all. That matters, because starting one is exactly what a motorway run does.

So the common advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are the far side of that line, and the filter needs cleaning rather than more driving.

DPF cleaning for a blocked filter in Lumb, Lancashire

On-site DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands in Lumb

Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That throws people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a couple of hours.

A check comes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by weight, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated components, so other faults are eliminated before a thing is cleaned.

Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution is fed in through the access port on that motor and spreads inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. A second pass is sometimes needed on heavily clogged filters.

A regeneration follows, clearing what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Lumb if you are along, or a static regeneration where the motor sits, with the real-time data read afterwards.

Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still logged. Both reports are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.

When a DPF clean is not the solution

A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean cures. It will not touch:

  • a pressure or temperature sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
  • the EGR valve stuck open
  • an AdBlue system fault
  • glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting whatsoever
  • oil working through the filter from a worn turbo

That is what the first diagnostic is for. When it is found to be one of those, you are told before any work begins rather than after you have settled up for it.

Cutting the filter out is not a fix: without a functioning DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the term people search for, though nothing is replaced — your original filter is treated in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.

DPF cleaning charges across Lumb

The clean begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that follows.

Publishing a flat rate would not be straight. We settle it on the phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are established. Two separate things change it: what you run, and where you are — Lumb itself, over at Forest Holme, or otherwise out across the BB postcode area.

If the scan rules cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. What still applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the check was run and the advice was passed on.

The work includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Lumb if the light comes back inside that window.

A vehicle having its DPF cleaned in Lumb

its been 3 months now and all seems good, the issue has not come back since it was cleaned out, the engineer was really good and explained everything well.

Saghir A.

Excellent service provided by DPF Fixer. They checked the computer system and cleaned the catalytic converter. After they reset and took readings to show improvements. An excellent service provided. Would recommend this company.

Michael E.

Dan and Rob attended to my vehicle. I was kept informed prior to their arrival. When they arrived they analysed my car and pointed out the faults. They did the job in just over an hour and advised me on post cleaning tips. I thought DPF service was very professional.

What we clean, and how far we travel round Lumb

Whatever it is — private car, panel van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the same call-out service stands, and the filter never leaves it.

Week in week out there is usually someone on Peers Clough Road, so Lumb seldom means a journey of its own, and Forest Holme, Whitewell Bottom and the spots past Water follow. Coverage is UK-wide, so even further out across Lancashire is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

A note on Lumb

Lumb is a small suburban area in Lancashire, situated on the riverside with a mix of terraced housing. Lumb sits at an elevation of 254 metres, overlooking the surrounding countryside. Lumb is located near several other small communities, including Bank Top and Forest Holme, and is within commuting distance of Manchester. Lumb remains a quiet residential area with a small population of around 230 people.

Things Lumb drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough by itself?
If you catch it early enough, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Spar and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for a stretch, will.
The visit lasts how long?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely clogged filter can take cleaning twice, which runs on.
What does it run to across Lumb?
Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the scan and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we price on the phone.
Must I be there in person?
The vehicle wants a place for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Choosing to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
When can someone get to Lumb?
You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the schedule. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the BB area has open.
Will the filter be taken off?
Not on the call-out service — it is done where it is. We do not get filters off or fit them back on, whichever way.
The light reappears — then what?
The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Lumb.
