Knolls Green, Cheshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Mobile DPF cleaning goes to the motor. No workshop, no filter coming off. A technician drives out to your address over in Knolls Green, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, fixed over the phone before anyone sets off.
The light is on already and the motor is short of power — that is how we usually meet people, and roughly what this page covers.
The DPF light is on. What now?
The unit is not automatically what is wrong, and that goes first. That light can follow plenty of faults, not merely one, so the visit starts with a check and not with cleaning.
How the motor is run in the meantime counts too.
- Amber light, vehicle yet driving as normal — a long constant run can yet sort it alone. Costs zero, and worth trying before you book anything.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.
What the car has been warning you
By the time the light appears, things have generally been deteriorating for some time. It is belated news:
- power falling off, particularly climbing uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- fuel consumption turning worse
- a stop/start that has silently packed in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
On its own, none of that is proof. Alongside the light with them, the filter is a fair assumption.
What blocks diesel particulate filters around Knolls Green
For a DPF, the poorest use is the sort you meet around a village such as Knolls Green. Nothing of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Mobberley CofE Primary School, Faulkners Lane crawling at the morning rush, five minutes to Waitrose, the hop to Mobberley. Instead of burning off, the unburnt soot collects.
Neither is distant from Knolls Green: under 5 miles to the M56, under 15 miles to Salford. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the journey that would scour a filter never gets made.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode ends it
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode amounts to. With output limited and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter wants can never happen at all. That matters, because setting off one is precisely what a motorway run does.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — right up until the moment it is not. The filter requires cleaning rather than road work once the car has slipped into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the car across Knolls Green
On your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can sit for a while: the job is done with the filter even now fixed on, which is the detail most owners do not anticipate.
A diagnostic comes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and connected hardware, so other faults are ruled out before a thing is cleaned.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never shift are loosened next, by a cleaning solution fed through the access point on that motor, which expands inside the filter. Severely blocked filters sometimes need a second pass.
What the clean has loosened is then driven off by a regeneration. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Knolls Green, with you present, or it runs where the motor waits and the live data is checked after.
Then a second scan, confirming the change, clearing the warning light and logging anything still outstanding. Both reports are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
A clean cures one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- pressure sensors showing a blockage that is not there
- EGR valves that hang open
- an AdBlue system failure
- a regeneration that hardly ever starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo trouble, with oil entering the filter
The first diagnostic is there for exactly that. Where one of those is the fault, you learn of it in advance rather than once the money has left already.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no remedy. What gets typed in as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into service.
The cost for DPF cleaning around Knolls Green
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
The price is agreed on the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be straight. Where you are counts as much as what you own: Knolls Green itself, Paddockhill nearby, or farther out within the WA postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for treatment that the scan says will not work. The call-out charge even so holds, because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done.
The clean includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Knolls Green if the light returns inside that time.
Turned up early, was very respectful, helpful, quick and thorough. He explained everything to me, gave me clear instructions on what to do next and advised on car care after the fix. My car is now running like it's brand new!
I would like to thank dpf for a good and prompt service. Especially igor who came across very professional and polite while doing the job. He also checked everything before he left to see if there were any other issues. We'll done igor highly recommended.
Called to get DPf cleaned came out next day, very friendly and helpful did a good job, thanks Dave. Will definitely recommend and use again.
The vehicles we clean and the patch we reach round Knolls Green
The filter is treated in place on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Week in week out there is by then someone on Faulkners Lane, so Knolls Green hardly ever means a special trip, and Paddockhill, Row-of-trees and the spots past Mobberley come with it. It is the diary, not the distance, that decides whether it is one day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so phone even from farther out through Cheshire.

Usual questions on DPF cleaning in Knolls Green
- Does a long run shift it?
- Quickly enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That requires motorway speed for a long run, rather than a short trip to Waitrose.
- How long does the visit last?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly clogged.
- The cost in Knolls Green — what is it?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for coming out that covers the check and advice on what to do next. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both change the number.
- Do I have to be present?
- Nobody expects you to stand with it — the motor only needs space to sit for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is no problem: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- How soon can someone come to Knolls Green?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the calendar. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is free across the WA area.
- The filter — does it come away from the vehicle?
- Not on the on-site service — it is treated where it is. Taking a filter off or putting one back on come to anything something we do in either direction.
- What if the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Knolls Green.
