Ipstones, Staffordshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Call-out DPF cleaning goes to the vehicle. The fitter turns up at your place over in Ipstones and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleared on the motor, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you end up with the filter you started with.
You'll know a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
Written for the state most callers are in: the light already on, the vehicle starved for power, and the visit still to arrange.
What to check when the DPF light comes on
Not the filter, necessarily. Opening thing to note. That light can arise from a number of faults, not just one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with treatment.
The driving you manage in the meantime tells. That is the other thing.
- A long constant run may still do it, provided the light is amber and the motor runs fine. Costs nothing at all, so have a go at that before ringing.
- Vehicle already fallen into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
- Get it looked at rather than using it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.
What the motor has been telling you
Symptoms have generally been building for a while before the light so much as shows. Late news, in other words:
- pulling uphill, the power tails off
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- fuel consumption getting worse
- stop/start quietly bowing out
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
That is not conclusive alone. Alongside the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke round Ipstones
Being a village, Ipstones throws up exactly the motoring a DPF handles least well. Run through a normal week: St Leonard's Church of England First School and home, Froghall Road at a standstill before half nine, a quick trip to Morrisons, a run to Blythe Bridge. Not much there runs long enough or is hot enough to see through a regeneration. What should burn away stays put.
Geography does not oblige either. The M6 is under 15 miles from Ipstones and Stoke-on-Trent is under 10 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, weeks go by without the long unbroken run that would scour the filter by itself.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
Limp mode is the vehicle looking after itself. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode blocks: power held down, revs kept low, no regeneration available.
Running it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works up to a line. Once the car is in limp mode you are past that line, and the filter wants a clean rather than driving.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is cleaned round Ipstones
Nothing comes off the car. That throws people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can sit for a couple of hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by percent and by actual weight, along with a look over of sensors, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.
Next comes the clean itself: solution in through the vehicle's own entry point, expanding inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration never can. Badly loaded filters sometimes need a second pass.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Ipstones; if not, on the spot where the vehicle sits, with the live data read afterwards.
A second check confirms the change, clears the warning light and notes anything still open. Both reports are emailed, so you end up with the before and after figures to hand.
Where treatment is not the fix
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing treatment cures. It will not help:
- the wrong reading from a temperature sensor
- a jammed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system fault
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
The first check is there for precisely that. Where it is found to be one of those, you are told before any work gets going rather than after you have settled up a penny.
Hollowing the filter out is not a fix: without a working DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the term people type in, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth knowing.
What DPF cleaning runs to around Ipstones
A clean opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
Once we know what you drive, and broadly what the filter will want, the figure gets agreed on the phone. A single price for every job would not be straight. Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you run: Ipstones itself, Above Church close by, or otherwise out across the ST postcode area.
If the diagnostic counts a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. You still pay that charge: someone travelled, did the check and passed on you the advice.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Ipstones if the light returns inside the time.
Daniel was excellent. He carried out the work efficiently and professionally. Diagnosed the fault and sorted it out. Thank you Daniel.
Arrived at my address and carried out all work needed in a very professional manner, informing me at every stage what he was doing, he respected my property and vehicle all the way through, would highly recommended this employee and this company, kind regards Alan and Susan Rhodes.
Daz was awesome, so knowledgeable and friendly, knew just where the problem was and how to sort it. Cannot recommend enough.
What we clean, and how far we go near Ipstones
The one mobile service covers cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than taken anywhere.
The same round that has our engineers on Froghall Road most weeks picks up Ipstones, Above Church, Coltstone and the villages beyond Foxt. It is the calendar, not the distance, that decides whether it is this day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so ring anyway from even further out across Staffordshire.

Things Ipstones drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- It might, provided you catch it in time and limp mode has not arrived. It needs a sustained run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to Morrisons and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — badly loaded filters sometimes take a second pass, which extends it.
- How much does it cost across Ipstones?
- Cleaning starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the check and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you run and where you live both shift the price.
- Must I be present in person?
- You need not stand with it — the motor only wants a spot to wait for a couple of hours. Travel along if you like, and the regeneration becomes a supervised drive.
- Can someone get to Ipstones soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is available across the ST area.
- Does the filter come off the vehicle?
- Cleaned where it sits, on this service, so no. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- The light reappears — then what?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Ipstones.
