Horton, Lancashire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. No body shop, no filter coming off. A fitter travels to your address over in Horton, clears the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the price is agreed by the phone before anyone sets off.
The light is already on and the car is down on power — that is how we usually come across people, and what this page covers.
Your DPF light is showing — what then?
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. A diagnostic comes before any work, because that same dashboard light has plenty of possible faults behind it.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.
- Vehicle even now driving as normal on an amber light — try a long even run first. It costs zero and regularly sorts the filter without a visit.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, a long run will not shift it. The window has shut.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
The motor has been warning you already
By the time the light arrives, things have normally been deteriorating for weeks. It is late news:
- power tailing off, particularly climbing uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they used to
- the fuel economy is poorer
- quietly, the stop/start packs in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is loaded.
Why diesel particulate filters clog around Horton
Being a rural hamlet, Horton produces just the motoring a DPF copes with worst. Nothing of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Gisburn Primary School, West Ing Lane crawling at half past eight, a few minutes to Aldi, the hop to Hellifield. What should burn off stays put.
Unless you have a routine need to head out to the M65, under 10 miles from Horton, or over to Bradford under 25 miles away, entire weeks pass without a sustained run. Geography is no help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
The motor is looking after itself, which is what limp mode is. Output is limited, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter needs can not happen — which is the whole catch, because a sustained drive works by setting off that regeneration.
The usual advice — take it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that point, and the filter requires cleaning rather than more driving.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands across Horton
Nothing is taken from the car. That catches out people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a few hours.
First a check. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it read before a thing is touched.
After that comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the car's own access port, spreading inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration never can. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to require doing twice.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Horton if you are present, or a static regeneration where the motor sits, with the real-time data checked once done.
Then a second diagnostic, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are kept.
What a DPF clean will not fix
A clean fixes one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- a pressure sensor flagging a restriction that is not there
- the EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system fault
- a regeneration that hardly ever runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo problems, with oil getting into the filter
Which is why the diagnostic comes first. When it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work gets going rather than after you have settled up a penny.
Gutting the filter out is not a fix: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the term people search for, though nothing is swapped — your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth knowing.
Prices for DPF cleaning in Horton
Each visit attracts a call-out charge — travelling to you, setting up the booking, doing the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
Once we are told what you own, and broadly what the filter will take, the price gets fixed by phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. The vehicle shifts it, and so does the postcode — Horton, Newsholme, or a spot otherwise out in the BD postcode area.
If the scan writes cleaning out, there is nothing to pay for it. What still applies is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the diagnostic was run and the advice was given.
If the light reappears inside that time, an engineer travels back out to Horton — the clean comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
Really good service. Everything explained clearly. Pointed out some other engine issues to check out which was very helpful. Expensive compared to other companies but with the 28 day warranty I felt happy to pay to get the best service. Couldn't fault the engineer he was excellent.
The mechanic technician (Andras) who came for the DPF cleaning was very experienced and highly skilled in his work.
Mechanic who did the dpf cleaning was really good at his job, explained everything he was doing and gave me some pointers on keeping the dpf cleaner for longer. It is pricey but cheaper than replacing the dpf.
Where we get to around Horton, and what we clean
Cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural machinery — a single call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned in place rather than moved anywhere.
Horton is rarely a special trip: our engineers are working West Ing Lane nearly every week, and the same run covers Newsholme, Paythorne and the villages out past Gisburn. Coverage runs UK-wide, so further out through Lancashire is even so worth a ring, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

What Horton drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- It might, provided you spot it in time and limp mode has not set in. It wants a sustained run at motorway speed, not ten minutes to Aldi and back.
- The visit runs how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
- Across Horton, what does it come to?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the scan and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you own and where you are both change the figure.
- Is it essential for me to be around?
- No. The motor needs somewhere to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Wanting to be there is welcome: the regeneration then is done out on the open road, monitored.
- Can someone get to Horton soon?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is usual. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the BD area has open.
- Does the filter come away from the motor?
- It is done where it is, on the call-out service. Nor does getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- And if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Horton.
