Mobile DPF Cleaning around Hook and Hampshire
With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the motor. No garage, no filter leaving. A technician comes to your door in Hook, cleans the diesel particulate filter where it is, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
Most drivers find us with the light showing, and the car low on power. That is exactly what this page is written for.
What to do when the DPF light comes on
First thing: it is not necessarily the unit. A diagnostic happens before any work, because that same dash light has a number of possible faults behind it.
The driving you get in the meantime counts. That is the other thing.
- Worth a shot before you ring anything: amber light, vehicle driving normally, just one constant run, no charge.
- That window has shut once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the stage to stop booking long drives and call.
Before the light, what the car was telling you
By the time the light shows, things have normally been deteriorating for weeks. It is late news:
- climbing uphill, the power tails off
- you find the revs stop short of where they always went
- the fuel use is down
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not evidence by itself. The light alongside them points at a blocked filter.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke round Hook
For a DPF, the worst use is the kind you get around a rural village such as Hook. Look at a typical week: Hook Infant School and home, A30 at a halt before the hour, a five-minute run to Tesco, a run to the nearest station. Nothing there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should clear banks up instead.
Geography does not assist either. The M3 is under a mile from Hook and Winchester is under 25 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, weeks go by without the long steady run that would clear the filter alone.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
Limp mode is the vehicle looking after itself. Power is capped, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter needs can no longer happen — which is the whole problem, because a proper drive works by setting off that regeneration.
Sound advice, that motorway run — up until the moment it is not. In limp mode you are past that line: treatment is what will help, not more road work.
On-site DPF cleaning where the motor stands across Hook
Nothing is taken from the motor. That throws people. The DPF remains bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can sit for a few hours.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are cleared. That requires a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated parts.
Then the treatment. A cleaning fluid is injected through the entry point on that vehicle and spreads inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. Heavily blocked filters sometimes need a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Hook; if not, on the spot where the vehicle stands, with the real-time data verified after.
Then a second scan, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still showing. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are kept.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
A clean fixes one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- pressure or temperature sensors showing a block that is not there
- an EGR valve stuck open
- an AdBlue system fault
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- turbo trouble, with oil entering the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are let know before all work gets going, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
Prices for DPF cleaning across Hook
The clean opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.
Once we have what you own, and roughly what the filter will want, the figure gets fixed on the phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. What you run and where you are both move it: Hook itself, across at Newnham, or farther out across the RG postcode area.
Where the check says a clean will not help, you are not billed for treatment. The call-out charge even so stands, because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place.
The work carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Hook if the light reappears inside that window.
The DPF engineer resolved the Exhaust filter issues with our vehicle. He was very efficient and explained the process and what was happening as well as recommendations on how to avoid future problems. Excellent service.
Managed to clean the DPF in my Range Rover Evoque whilst in limp mode and get it back on the road in 2 hours. Ashley was knowledgeable and did a cracking job.
I have done second time done the DPF cleaning process and the engineers were always polite, informative, and professional. I will use this service again if need. Thanks!
Vehicles we clean, and where we reach near Hook
The one on-site service spans private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
Technicians are along A30 most weeks, so Hook is hardly ever a detour, and the same run takes in Newnham, Murrell Green and the places out past Nately Scures. It is the calendar, not the distance, that decides whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so phone even from even further out around Hampshire.

Questions Hook drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I merely take it for a long drive?
- If you get it early enough, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it needs — not five minutes flat to Tesco and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely loaded filter can require a second clean, which adds to that.
- What does it run to across Hook?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the scan and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you own and where you sit both move the figure.
- Is it essential for me to be around?
- The motor requires a spot for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Come along if you would rather, and the regeneration is done as a watched drive.
- How soon can someone come to Hook?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the diary. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the RG area has open.
- The filter — does it leave the motor?
- It is done where it sits, on the on-site service. Nor does lifting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- The light returns — then what?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer returning to Hook.
