Hixon, Staffordshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we come to the motor. The fitter pulls up at your door in Hixon and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Nobody leaves until the figure is settled on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Written for the position most callers are in: the light already on, the car short for power, and the visit still to arrange.
What to check when the DPF light comes on
The unit is not necessarily what is at fault, and that leads. A diagnostic happens before the work, because that same dashboard light has plenty of candidate faults behind it.
How the car is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Amber light, motor yet driving as normal — a long steady run can still clear it on its own. Costs nothing at all, and worth a try before you ring anything.
- That window has shut once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not do it now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the stage to stop booking long drives and book it in.
Signs the motor has been sending you
Late news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for weeks before it shows:
- power tailing off, particularly going uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull as before
- the fuel economy is poorer
- a stop/start that has meekly bowed out
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. The light beside them indicates a blocked filter.
Clogged diesel particulate filters around Hixon, and the reason
For a DPF, the poorest driving is the sort you meet around a rural village such as Hixon. A regeneration takes time and heat, and has none: not on the school run to St Peter's CofE Primary School, not on High Street at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to The Co-operative Food, and not on the hop to Rugeley Trent Valley. The soot that should burn away builds up instead.
Neither is far from Hixon: under 10 miles to the M6, under 15 miles to Lichfield. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter simply never gets made.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer run
The motor is protecting itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. The real difficulty is that a sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is limited.
Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the moment it is not. The filter wants a clean rather than more driving once the vehicle has gone into limp mode.
The motor stays in place for on-site DPF cleaning across Hixon
Nothing comes off the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work happens around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, wherever it can sit for two hours or so.
The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by percent and by mass, along with a review of sensor feeds, glow plugs and related parts, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are freed next, by a cleaning solution passed through the access point on that motor, which spreads inside the filter. Where the filter is severely blocked, plan on a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Hixon; if not, on the spot where the motor sits, with the live data checked afterwards.
A second check verifies the change, resets the warning light and logs anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so you have the before and after figures recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
Treatment answers one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, showing a block that is not real
- the EGR valve stuck open
- AdBlue system faults
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
That is what the first scan is for. You are told before the work gets going, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.
Hollowing the filter out is not a remedy: without a working DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the wording people search for, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is cleared in place and put back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
Prices for DPF cleaning in Hixon
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We settle it on the phone, once the car and its expected needs are known. The motor changes it, and so does the address — Hixon, Stowe-by-Chartley, or somewhere farther out in the ST postcode area.
Where the scan says treatment will not do it, you are not billed for a clean. The call-out charge nonetheless applies, because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened.
The work includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Hixon if the light reappears inside that window.
Excellent service. Arrived on time and happily let my husband watch the process. Very helpful and explained everything. Not cheap but the difference in the car is amazing. Would recommend.
Made a phone call and next day dpf fixer was at my home to work on the car, fast efficient and great service.
"The admin team at the office were brilliant-helpful and efficient throughout the process. The engineer was friendly, knowledgeable, and quickly diagnosed the issue. He recommended a third-party technician, who successfully resolved the problem identified during the diagnostics. The car is now running well, and I'm a happy customer!". Isaac.
Where we get to around Hixon, and what we clean
The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
The same run that keeps engineers on High Street most weeks covers Hixon, Stowe-by-Chartley, Shirleywich and the spots beyond Ingestre. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so farther out around Staffordshire is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

Things Hixon drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I merely take it for a long drive?
- Soon enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Ten minutes to The Co-operative Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit take long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely loaded filter can require cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Cost in Hixon — what is it?
- A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why quoting is done by phone.
- Is it essential for me to be there?
- You do not need to stand with it — the vehicle simply wants space to wait for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be run as a monitored drive if you would rather come along.
- Getting to Hixon — how soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is open across the ST area.
- Does the filter leave the motor?
- Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it is. We will not lift filters off or bolt them back on, whichever way.
- And if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Hixon.
