Mobile DPF Cleaning across Heol-y-gaer and Powys
Sorting the DPF is done at the motor, not at a garage. No workshop, no filter going anywhere. A technician drives out to your address over in Heol-y-gaer, cleans the diesel particulate filter where it is, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the figure is settled on the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
The light is on already and the vehicle is down on power — that is how we usually meet people, and what this page deals with.
What to try when the DPF light shows
Not the unit, automatically. Opening thing to get straight. Several faults put the same light on the same dash, which is why a visit opens with a diagnostic rather than with treatment.
How the motor is run in the meantime matters too.
- Worth a try before you ring anything: amber light, car driving normally, just one steady run, no outlay.
- That window has gone once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. A drive will not help now.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
Before the light, what the vehicle was warning you
The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been building for weeks:
- dropping away on power, particularly uphill
- you notice the revs stop short of where they once went
- worse fuel economy
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box
Alone, none of that is conclusive. It is a fair bet the filter is loaded once the light is there too.
Why diesel particulate filters clog around Heol-y-gaer
Being a small village, Heol-y-gaer produces exactly the use a DPF manages the poorest. Nothing of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, B4350 standing at half eight, five minutes to Co-op Food, the hop to the nearest station. The unburnt soot builds up rather than clearing.
Neither is a long way from Heol-y-gaer: under 50 miles to the M50, under 25 miles to Hereford. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the run that would scour a filter hardly ever comes.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
Limp mode is the motor looking after itself. With power held down and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs will not complete at all. That tells, because triggering one is just what a long run does.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — up until the moment it is not. Beyond that stage — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter wants cleaning.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the motor stands across Heol-y-gaer
Nothing is taken from the car. That catches out people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work happens around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can stand for two hours or so.
The ECU is taken first, showing soot load by percentage and by mass, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and associated hardware, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still possible.
A cleaning solution next is injected through the access port on that car, expanding inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to require doing twice.
What the clean has freed is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Heol-y-gaer if you are along, or a static regeneration where the car stands, with the live data read afterwards.
Finally the scan runs again — the change verified, the light put out, anything still outstanding noted. Both read-outs arrive with you by email, so the numbers are kept.
What a DPF clean will not cure
A clean answers one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:
- sensors, pressure, showing a blockage that is not real
- an EGR valve jammed open
- the AdBlue system failing
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever starts
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first check's purpose. Where one of those is the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has left altogether.
Gutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the phrase people search for, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is treated in place and put back into use. Two more worth knowing.
What DPF cleaning comes to in Heol-y-gaer
Each visit attracts a call-out charge — travelling to you, making the booking, doing the check and passing on the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
Naming a flat rate would not be straight. We agree it by phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are clear. What you drive and where you are both move it: Heol-y-gaer itself, over at Ffordd-las, or further out in the HR postcode area.
You are not charged for a clean that the scan says will not work. The call-out charge still holds, because the visit, the check and the advice have been done.
If the light returns inside that time, an engineer travels back out to Heol-y-gaer — the work includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
Daz was very friendly and helpful. Although the issue with my car was a lot more than the DPF, he helped me understand the problem so I could make an informed decision on where to go/what to do next.
Great service. Quick to answer and very flexible team. I'd personally like to say a big thanks to Attila, who was exceptional. He is a great asset to DPF fixer team. Thank you.
Great work from Daz cleaning the DPF and all round great advice and information. And all done at home with their door to door service.
The vehicles we clean and the ground we take in around Heol-y-gaer
One on-site service covers cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
Our engineers are along B4350 most weeks, so Heol-y-gaer is hardly ever a special trip, and the same run covers Ffordd-las, Tregoyd and the spots out past Glasbury. It is the calendar, not the distance, that decides whether it is this day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone still from farther out around Powys.

Things Heol-y-gaer drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- If you catch it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Ten minutes to Co-op Food and back will not be enough; motorway speed, kept for a stretch, will.
- The visit takes how long?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily clogged.
- The cost in Heol-y-gaer — what is it?
- A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the price.
- Must I be present in person?
- Nobody expects you to stand with it — the motor just requires a spot to wait for a couple of hours. Preferring to be there is welcome: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
- When can someone travel to Heol-y-gaer?
- That hangs on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is open across the HR area.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- It is done where it is, on the call-out service. And neither does lifting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Heol-y-gaer.
