Hearn, Hampshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. An engineer comes at your place in Hearn, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the figure is settled on the phone before anyone sets off.
If the light is on already and the motor is down on power, this page is yours. That is how most people get to us.
DPF light on? What comes next
Not the DPF, always. First thing to get straight. A scan goes before the cleaning, because that same dashboard light has plenty of possible faults behind it.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then makes a difference.
- Vehicle still driving normally on an amber light — have a go at a long constant run first. It costs nothing at all and frequently clears the filter without assistance.
- That window has closed once the motor has fallen into limp mode. Motoring will not help now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under the throttle, is the moment to stop planning long drives and book it in.
What the car has been showing you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been slipping for a while. It is late news:
- less power, especially going uphill
- you notice the revs fall short of where they used to go
- consumption that is worse than it used to be
- a stop/start that has meekly bowed out
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under the throttle
Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is showing too.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Hearn
For a DPF, the least kind driving is the type you find across a small village such as Hearn. Look at a typical week: The Holme Church of England Primary School and home, Spats Lane at a standstill before the hour, a short hop to Lidl, a run to Liphook. None of it there goes on long enough or is hot enough to finish a regeneration. Soot that should burn away builds up instead.
Save when you have a regular reason to head out to the M3, under 15 miles from Hearn, or out to Chichester under 25 miles away, weeks go by without a long unbroken stint. Geography is unhelpful.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it
Limp mode is the car protecting itself. Power is held down, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter needs can no longer run — which is the real difficulty, because a proper drive works by starting that regeneration.
Taking it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it holds as far as a point. Once the car is in limp mode you are the far side of that point, and the filter requires cleaning rather than driving.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands across Hearn
Nothing comes off the motor. That catches out people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, anywhere it can stand for two hours or so.
The ECU is taken first, giving soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a look over of sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still in play.
Then the clean. A solution goes in through the access port on that vehicle and opens out inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to require doing twice.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean loosened. Ride along with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Hearn. Drop it and the regeneration runs on the spot, with real-time data verified once it is done.
A second check verifies the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still open. Both reports are sent over, so you keep the before and after figures recorded.
Where treatment is not the fix
Only one fault is answered by a clean: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- sensors, pressure, reporting a restriction that is not real
- the EGR valve stuck open
- an AdBlue system failure
- a regeneration that hardly ever completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- oil working through the filter from a failing turbo
The first scan is there for precisely that. Transpiring to be one of them means hearing it before work gets going, not after paying anything.
Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is exchanged — your own filter is cleared in place and sent back into use. Two more worth noting.
The cost for DPF cleaning in Hearn
The clean begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.
The figure is fixed over the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be straight. The motor moves it, and so does the location — Hearn, Headley Down, or a spot farther out in the GU postcode area.
Cleaning that will not work is not treatment you pay for, and the scan is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone turned up, carried out the scan and passed on you the advice.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Hearn.
The service was very prompt, courteous and efficient, and the car is now running better than it has for ages. The engineer, Liam, was professional and very helpful, filling me in on the details of what was done clearly and concisely. I can thoroughly recommend the company.
Dave arrived on time very professional and fixed the problem so back on road and gave me advice to keep it clean. Many thanks. Jonathan.

The vehicles we clean and the patch we reach near Hearn
Whatever it is — estate, van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the same mobile service holds, and the filter never quits it.
Our engineers are along Spats Lane most weeks, so Hearn is hardly ever a journey of its own, and the same run covers Headley Down, Wishanger Common and the places out past Arford. Coverage runs UK-wide, so farther out around Hampshire is even so worth a call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Common questions on DPF cleaning in Hearn
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- If you catch it early enough, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. It takes a long run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes flat to Lidl and back.
- Broadly how long does it run?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly blocked filter can take a second clean, which lengthens that.
- In Hearn, what does it cost?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; cleaning itself begins from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why quoting is done by phone.
- Is it necessary for me to be around?
- The car needs a place for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. The regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive if you would sooner be there.
- How soon can someone get to Hearn?
- That hangs on the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is available across the GU area.
- Does the filter come away from the car?
- Not on the on-site service — it is done where it is. And neither does getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- And if the light reappears?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Hearn.
