The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have normally been growing for weeks:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they once did
- fuel economy getting worse
- stop/start quietly giving up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
