Glan-y-don, Flintshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. An engineer arrives at your door in Glan-y-don, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the price is agreed on the phone before anyone travels.
If the light is already on and the car is down on power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners arrive here.
Your DPF light is on — what next?
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. That light can follow a number of faults, not merely one, so the visit starts with a diagnostic and not with cleaning.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then matters.
- A long steady run may still manage it, provided the light is amber and the car drives as normal. Costs zero, so attempt that before booking.
- That window has gone once the car has slipped into limp mode. A drive will not get there now.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
The motor has been telling you already
The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been building for a while:
- going uphill, the power tails off
- revs that will not pull the way they used to
- worse fuel use
- without a word, the stop/start packs in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
None of that is proof on its own. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
The reason diesel particulate filters block around Glan-y-don
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the kind you meet around a residential suburb such as Glan-y-don. The school run to the local primary school, A548 at a standstill at half eight, a few minutes to Tesco, the dash to West Kirby — none of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Instead of burning away, the soot load collects.
The map does not assist either. The Moreton Spur is under 10 miles from Glan-y-don and St Asaph is under 10 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, entire weeks slip past without the sustained run that could empty the filter alone.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode amounts to. A sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration on offer.
So the common advice to run it up the motorway is sensible advice, right until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: treatment is what will work, not more miles.
DPF cleaning at the car across Glan-y-don
The filter does not come off. That is the detail most owners do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF even now fitted to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, any place the motor can wait for a couple of hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percent and by weight, along with a check of sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
Then comes the clean itself: solution in through the motor's own access port, spreading inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration never can. Severely blocked filters sometimes require a second pass.
What the clean has lifted is then burned off by a regeneration. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Glan-y-don, with you present, or it goes where the car sits and the real-time data is verified once done.
Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are kept.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
Only one fault is cured by cleaning: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- pressure or temperature sensors reporting a blockage that is not there
- the EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system problem
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever runs
- turbo trouble, with oil getting into the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's whole job. If it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work gets going rather than after you have paid anything.
Two things more worth knowing. Leaving the filter gutted is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.
What DPF cleaning costs around Glan-y-don
A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice passed on. Cleaning itself starts from £299.
Once we are told what you drive, and about what the filter will need, the price gets settled on the phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. Two things move it: what you own, and where you are — Glan-y-don itself, over at Maes Pennant, or farther out in the CH postcode area.
If the diagnostic counts a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. Because the visit, the check and the advice have happened, the call-out charge still stands.
If the light reappears inside that time, an engineer travels back out to Glan-y-don — the clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
The job was done at my home. The technician knew exactly what he was doing. After the DPF clean I was given a full diagnostic report. The car goes much better now. I'm very happy with the job.
First class service from initial contact to last. Kieran, the engineer sent, was so knowledgeable and detailed in his explanations and paperwork. Very impressive.
Dpf blocked EML light on Excellent service job done in about 1hr EML light came off as soon as I restarted 5 stars.

A single on-site service takes in private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.

What Glan-y-don drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- Quickly enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Tesco and back will not be enough; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit run long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely clogged filter can take cleaning twice, which runs on.
- Across Glan-y-don, what does it run to?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the figure, so we quote on the phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- The motor needs a spot for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive instead.
- Can someone come to Glan-y-don soon?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is open across the CH area.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- Not on the mobile service — it is done where it stands. And neither does taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- The light comes back — then what?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Glan-y-don.
