The vehicle has been showing you already
Symptoms have normally been mounting for some time before the light so much as arrives. Belated news, in other words:
- power tailing off, particularly pulling uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they used to
- worse fuel consumption
- stop/start silently bowing out
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under hard acceleration
That is not evidence alone. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is showing too.

For a DPF, the poorest use is the kind you find across a village such as Flixton.
