Ffawyddog, Powys: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. No body shop, no filter leaving. A technician drives out to your place over in Ffawyddog, treats the diesel particulate filter as it sits, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
You'll know a price by phone before anyone departs, the clean starting from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.
The light is showing and the car is short of power — that is how we generally find people, and roughly what this page is about.
The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the filter, necessarily. Main thing to note. Treatment is not where a visit opens. A scan is — plenty of faults register as the same light.
The driving you manage in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- Worth a try before you call anything: amber light, car driving as normal, just one even run, no charge.
- That window has shut once the motor has dropped into limp mode. Motoring will not do it now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it seen to.
What the vehicle has been telling you
Symptoms have usually been building for weeks before the light even arrives. Last news, in other words:
- dropping away on power, above all uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they always did
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- the stop/start silently packing in
- the cabin reeking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
Alone, none of that is conclusive. Alongside the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
Clogged diesel particulate filters round Ffawyddog, and the cause
Being a small village, Ffawyddog produces exactly the motoring a DPF handles the poorest. The school run to the local primary school, Barn Lane at a crawl at half past eight, a few minutes to Home Bargins, the dash to Ebbw Vale Town — nothing of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot banks up.
Unless you have a standing need to head out to the M4, under 25 miles from Ffawyddog, or out to Newport under 25 miles away, weeks slip past without a long unbroken stint. Geography is against you.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode amounts to. With power held down and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter wants will not run at all. That matters, because starting one is precisely what a sustained run does.
So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: treatment is what will help, not more road work.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated in Ffawyddog
On your front, in a work car park, any place the car can wait for a couple of hours: the job happens with the filter even now bolted on, which is the part most owners do not see coming.
Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That requires a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and related parts.
Then comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the vehicle's own access point, spreading inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration never can. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely blocked filters.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. Stay with the car and it becomes a monitored drive out of Ffawyddog. Drop it and the regeneration is done statically, with running data checked once it is done.
Then a second scan, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and listing anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not cure
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing a clean fixes. It will not reach:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a restriction that is not real
- the EGR valve jammed open
- AdBlue system failures
- a regeneration that hardly ever starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo failure, with oil reaching the filter
Finding that out is the first check's purpose. Turning out to be one of them means learning it before any work gets going, not after handing over for it.
Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a working DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the wording people search for, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is treated in place and put back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
DPF cleaning costs in Ffawyddog
A clean opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
No flat rate would be truthful, so the number is agreed by the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. What you own and where you are both change it: Ffawyddog itself, across at Legar, or farther out in the NP postcode area.
Where the scan says treatment will not do it, you are not charged for cleaning. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the scan and passed on you the advice.
If the light returns inside that window, an engineer travels back out to Ffawyddog — the clean includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.

Where we get to round Ffawyddog, and what we clean
Cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.
The same round that has engineers on Barn Lane most weeks picks up Ffawyddog, Legar, Ffynnonau and the villages beyond Llangattock. Phone anyway from further out through Powys. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you are given hangs on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Things Ffawyddog drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- Early enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A steady run at motorway speed is what it needs — not five minutes or so to Home Bargins and back.
- The visit runs how long?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is heavily clogged.
- Price across Ffawyddog — what is it?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you run and where you live both shift the price.
- Do I have to be there?
- No. The car needs somewhere to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
- When can someone come to Ffawyddog?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is free across the NP area.
- Does the filter leave the motor?
- It is cleaned where it stands, on the call-out service. We do not take filters off or fit them back on, whichever way.
- What if the light comes back?
- An engineer comes back out to Ffawyddog — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
