Dylife, Powys: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. The technician turns up at your address across Dylife and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is treated on the car, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you keep the filter you started with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the price is fixed by the phone before anyone sets off.
The light is showing and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we usually come across people, and precisely what this page is about.
What to do when the DPF light comes on
It could not be the unit in the end. That is the opening thing. A number of faults put the same light on the same dash, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with treatment.
It tells what you do with the motor between now and the visit.
- Amber light, vehicle even now driving normally — a long constant run can still shift it alone. Costs zero, and worth trying before you call anything.
- That window has shut once the motor has fallen into limp mode. Motoring will not help now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the moment to stop arranging long drives and ring.
What the motor has been warning you
Symptoms have generally been building for a while before the light so much as shows. Belated news, in other words:
- less power, above all climbing uphill
- you find the revs fall short of where they always went
- worse fuel use
- the stop/start silently bowing out
- the interior reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
None of that is evidence alone. The light with them points at a blocked filter.
Why diesel particulate filters clog near Dylife
Dylife is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that belongs to one is the poorest kind for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, Bryn Llwyd at a standstill at half past eight, five minutes to the local shops, the hop to Machynlleth — nothing of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot load collects.
The map does not assist either. The M54 is under 50 miles from Dylife and Wrexham is under 50 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, entire weeks slip past without the long steady run that would clear the filter alone.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode amounts to. A long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode blocks: power capped, revs pinned, no regeneration on offer.
The usual advice — take it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. In limp mode you are past that point: a clean is what will help, not more miles.
DPF cleaning at the motor across Dylife
The filter does not budge. That is the detail most people do not see coming: the job is done with the DPF still bolted to the motor, on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can sit for a while.
First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a figure, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the connected hardware — all of it read before any of it is cleaned.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution is injected through the entry point on that car and spreads inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to need doing twice.
What the clean has lifted is then driven off by a regeneration. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Dylife; if not, on the spot where the vehicle stands, with the live data checked after.
Then a second scan, proving the change, clearing the warning light and logging anything still logged. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.
Where treatment is not the answer
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning cures. It will not reach:
- sensors, pressure, flagging a restriction that is not real
- the EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system failure
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running in the first place
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
That is what the first check is for. If it turns out to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have settled up for it.
Two things more worth noting. Having the filter hollowed out is not a solution — a vehicle without a functioning DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.
The cost of DPF cleaning across Dylife
Each visit takes a call-out charge — coming out to you, taking the booking, carrying out the scan and passing on the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be honest. We agree it by phone, once the car and its likely needs are known. What you run and where you are both move it: Dylife itself, over at Llwynygog, or further out across the SY postcode area.
If the check rules treatment out, there is no charge to pay for it. The call-out charge still applies, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Dylife if the light reappears inside the time.
Nat arrived from the company on time, was polite and explained what he was doing then just got on with it. Very efficient and well worth every penny. Nat should get a medal. Car is running fine now.
Daz turned up and did a good job on the fix even though he wasn't feeling too well! Would highly recommend him and DPF Fixer service again!
Thank you very much for your service, I would like to say how nice it was to meet Nat and you have an amazing rep in your company very happy with the service i have received.
The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach around Dylife
The one call-out service takes in cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is done on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.
Our engineers are along Bryn Llwyd nearly every week, so Dylife is seldom a journey of its own, and the same run takes in Llwynygog, Braichyfedw and the villages out past Bont Dolgadfan. Call anyway from further out around Powys. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you get hangs on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Common questions on DPF cleaning in Dylife
- Does a long run clear it?
- It can, provided you get it early and limp mode has not set in. It needs a long run at motorway speed, not five minutes or so to the local shops and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily clogged filter can need a second clean, which extends that.
- What does it run to around Dylife?
- A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why settling it happens by phone.
- Is it needed for me to be present?
- Somewhere for the car to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a supervised drive instead.
- Can someone come to Dylife soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the diary. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is free across the SY area.
- Does the filter come off the motor?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is treated in place. And neither does lifting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Dylife.
