Duke Street, Suffolk: Mobile DPF Cleaning

On-site DPF cleaning travels to the car. The fitter pulls up at your door across Duke Street and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is treated on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you keep the filter you came with.

You'll be given a price by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.

Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the car short of power. That is exactly what this page is meant for.

What to try when the DPF light is on

It may not be the DPF in the end. That is the first thing. A diagnostic comes before any cleaning, because that same dashboard light has several candidate faults behind it.

The motoring you manage in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.

  • A long steady run may yet do it, provided the light is amber and the car runs fine. Costs zero, so try that before calling.
  • Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not shift it. The window has closed.
  • A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the point to stop arranging long drives and book it in.

The vehicle has been warning you already

The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been growing for a while:

  • tailing off on power, particularly uphill
  • the revs no longer climb the way they used to
  • economy that is worse than it was
  • the stop/start without a word bowing out
  • diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box

Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.

The cause diesel particulate filters clog around Duke Street

For a DPF, the least kind use is the sort you find around a village such as Duke Street. Not one bit of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to Hintlesham and Chattisham Church of England Primary School, Clay Hill crawling at half past eight, five minutes to Co-op Daily, the hop to Ipswich. The soot collects rather than burning away.

Where you sit does not assist either. The M11 is under 50 miles from Duke Street and Colchester is under 15 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, weeks slip past without the long steady run that might clear the filter alone.

DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode stops it

Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. The real difficulty is that a proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.

Sensible advice, that motorway run — right up until the moment it is not. In limp mode you are past that line: a clean is what will help, not more driving.

The vehicle stays where it is for call-out DPF cleaning in Duke Street

Nothing comes off the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work happens around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, wherever it can sit for a few hours.

First a diagnostic. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it taken before a thing is started.

A solution next is injected through the entry point on that motor, expanding inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely loaded filters.

A regeneration comes next, clearing what the clean has loosened. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Duke Street, with you there, or it runs where the motor sits and the real-time data is checked afterwards.

Both reports go over by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, puts out the light and lists whatever is still showing.

What a DPF clean will not cure

A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning fixes. It will not help:

  • the wrong signal from a temperature sensor
  • EGR valves that jam open
  • the AdBlue system failing
  • a regeneration that never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • a turbo pushing oil through the filter

Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. You are warned before all work gets going, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.

Two things more worth bearing in mind. Having the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a working DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your original filter is cleaned in place and returned into use.

What DPF cleaning costs around Duke Street

Every visit takes a call-out charge — travelling to you, making the booking, carrying out the scan and giving the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

The price is fixed by the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be honest. Whereabouts you are counts as much as what you run: Duke Street itself, The Woodlands close by, or further out within the IP postcode area.

If the scan rules treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. What even so applies is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the scan was carried out and the advice was offered.

A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Duke Street if the light comes back inside the window.

Timely fix, effective and affable. Engine amber warning light on again this morning but my local garage able to reset it. Just quite expensive. Thanks.

Vehicles we clean, and where we reach around Duke Street

The filter is done where it sits on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.

Most weeks there is by then someone on Clay Hill, so Duke Street seldom means a journey of its own, and The Woodlands, Mace Green and the villages past Hintlesham come with it. It is the diary, not the distance, that decides whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage extends UK-wide — so call still from farther out around Suffolk.

The patch around Duke Street

Duke Street is a small village in Suffolk, situated on the riverside at an elevation of 46 metres, with detached housing being the predominant type of accommodation. Duke Street lies near the villages of Hintlesham and Chattisham, and is close to The Woodlands, in a rural area of the Eastern region. Duke Street enjoys a peaceful setting, surrounded by the Suffolk countryside.

Questions Duke Street drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
It might, provided you spot it early enough and limp mode has not arrived. A long run at motorway speed is what it wants — not fifteen minutes or so to Co-op Daily and back.
How long does the visit take?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which adds time.
Around Duke Street, what does it cost?
Cleaning opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the scan and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you live both shift the price.
Do I have to be present?
The car requires a spot for two hours or so. You need not be in it. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would sooner ride along.
Can someone come to Duke Street soon?
Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is normal. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is open across the IP area.
Does the filter leave the car?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Getting a filter off or bolting one back on come to anything something we do either way.
What if the light returns?
An engineer comes back out to Duke Street — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
