Daisyfield, Lancashire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Sorting the DPF happens at the vehicle, not at a body shop. The technician pulls up at your address in Daisyfield and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is treated fitted to the car, a DPF regeneration runs after it, and you keep the filter you arrived with.

Reckon on the visit running typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, agreed over the phone before anyone leaves.

The light is on already and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we usually find people, and roughly what this page is about.

What to try when the DPF light comes on

Not the unit, always. Opening thing to note. A number of faults put the same light on the very same panel, which is why a visit starts with a diagnostic rather than with a clean.

The motoring you do in the meantime matters. That is the second thing.

  • Amber light, car even now driving as normal — a long even run can yet sort it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you book anything.
  • A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has now shut.
  • Stop planning long drives and get it looked at if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.

What the vehicle has been telling you

Symptoms have usually been building for weeks before the light ever arrives. Last news, in other words:

  • power falling off, particularly pulling uphill
  • you see the revs never reach where they always went
  • the fuel economy is down
  • silently, the stop/start bows out
  • the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate

Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.

Blocked diesel particulate filters round Daisyfield, and the why

For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the kind you find in a residential suburb such as Daisyfield. Think about a normal week: Daisyfield Primary School and home, Moss Street at a halt before nine, a quick trip to Tesco, a run to Blackburn. None of it there goes on long enough or runs hot enough to see through a regeneration. What should burn away remains.

The M65 lies under a mile from Daisyfield, Preston under 10 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, whole weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that scours a filter. Geography does not oblige.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it

What limp mode means is the vehicle defending itself. With pulling power limited and the revs held, the regeneration the filter requires will not happen at all. That tells, because setting off one is exactly what a long run does.

So the standard advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, right until the day it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are the far side of that point, and the filter wants cleaning rather than road work.

Where the car stands is where the DPF is done across Daisyfield

The filter does not leave it. That is the bit most drivers do not expect: the job takes place with the DPF even now fitted to the car, on your front, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can sit for a while.

Nothing is touched until other faults are cleared. That involves a scan first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected hardware.

A cleaning fluid then is injected through the access port on that car, expanding inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Severely loaded filters sometimes require a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Daisyfield if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle waits, with the real-time data checked afterwards.

Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what verifies the change, clears the light and logs whatever is still open.

The faults a DPF clean cannot answer

A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not touch:

  • the wrong reading from a temperature or pressure sensor
  • an EGR valve stuck open
  • an AdBlue system fault
  • a regeneration that hardly ever completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • oil coming through the filter from a worn turbo

That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are let know before any work begins, not after you have paid, should it turns out to be one of those.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no remedy. What gets searched for as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.

Figures for DPF cleaning around Daisyfield

A clean begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.

No single flat rate would be honest, so the number is agreed by the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Two separate things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Daisyfield itself, over at Green Bank, or otherwise out in the BB postcode area.

If the check counts a clean out, there is not a penny to pay for it. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the scan and offered you the advice.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer returns to Daisyfield.

What we clean, and how far we travel around Daisyfield

The one call-out service spans private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than taken anywhere.

The same run that keeps our engineers on Moss Street most weeks picks up Daisyfield, Green Bank, Little Harwood and the spots beyond Blackburn. Further out around Lancashire is nonetheless worth a call — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

Things Daisyfield drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
If you get it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to Tesco and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
Roughly how long does it last?
Plan on typically around 2 hours — badly blocked filters sometimes take a second pass, which adds to it.
What does it come to around Daisyfield?
Treatment starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the price, so we quote on the phone.
Do I have to be present?
A spot for the motor to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive instead.
Coming to Daisyfield — how soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the BB area.
Does the filter come off the car?
It is treated where it is, on the call-out service. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
The light reappears — then what?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Daisyfield.
