Mobile DPF Cleaning across Crag Foot and Lancashire

Mobile DPF cleaning goes to the motor. A fitter arrives at your door across Crag Foot, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

Nobody sets off until the figure is settled over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.

Most drivers find us with the light already on, and the vehicle low on power. That is the position this page is meant for.

Your DPF light is showing — what then?

The filter is not automatically what is at fault, and that leads. A number of faults put the same light on the same panel, which is why a visit starts with a diagnostic rather than with a clean.

It matters what you get with the motor between now and the visit.

  • A long constant run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the motor runs as normal. Costs zero, so have a go at that before calling.
  • Vehicle already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not reach it now.
  • Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it checked.

What the motor has been showing you

Symptoms have normally been growing for some time before the light even arrives. Late news, in other words:

  • less power, particularly pulling uphill
  • revs that will not rise the way they always did
  • fuel use getting worse
  • silently, the stop/start bows out
  • a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle

Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.

Blocked diesel particulate filters around Crag Foot, and the reason

Being a rural hamlet, Crag Foot produces precisely the use a DPF manages the poorest. A regeneration needs time and heat, and has neither: not on the school run to Silverdale St John's Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, not on Crag Road at the morning rush, not on ten minutes to Aldi, and not on the dash to Silverdale. Soot that should clear builds up instead.

Where you sit does not help either. The M6 is under 3 miles from Crag Foot and Lancaster is under 10 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, whole weeks go by without the long unbroken run that would clear the filter alone.

DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode stops it

What limp mode comes down to is the vehicle defending itself. The real problem is that a long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is capped.

The common advice — get it up the motorway — is good, up until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: a clean is what will help, not more driving.

The blocked filter treated after a warning light in Crag Foot, Lancashire

The filter does not come off. That is the bit most owners do not expect: the job is done with the DPF even now fitted to the motor, on your drive, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can wait for a while.

Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That requires a diagnostic first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware.

A cleaning solution then is injected through the access port on that car, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. A second pass is sometimes required on badly blocked filters.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Crag Foot, with you present, or it goes where the motor waits and the live data is verified once done.

Both read-outs go over by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second check is what confirms the change, resets the light and notes whatever is still showing.

Where treatment is not the answer

Cleaning cures one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • temperature or pressure sensors flagging a block that is not there
  • the EGR valve jammed open
  • a problem in the AdBlue system
  • injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration running at all
  • the turbo pushing oil into the filter

That is what the first check is for. Turning out to be one of them means learning it before any work starts, not after paying for it.

A couple more worth bearing in mind. Getting the filter gutted is not a solution — a vehicle without a functioning DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleared in place and put back into use.

What DPF cleaning runs to around Crag Foot

Every visit carries a call-out charge — travelling to you, taking the booking, carrying out the scan and passing on the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

The figure is settled by the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be honest. Where you are tells as much as what you own: Crag Foot itself, Silverdale nearby, or further out within the LA postcode area.

Where the check says a clean will not do it, you are not charged for cleaning. The call-out charge even so holds, because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened.

A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Crag Foot if the light reappears inside the window.

Questions Crag Foot drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough by itself?
If you get it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. It wants a sustained run at motorway speed, not ten minutes flat to Aldi and back.
Does the visit take long?
Expect typically around 2 hours — badly loaded filters sometimes require a second pass, which extends it.
Across Crag Foot, what does it run to?
It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the check and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you own and where you are both move the number.
Is it essential for me to be around?
The vehicle wants a space for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Wanting to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
Getting to Crag Foot — how soon?
That comes down to the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is open across the LA area.
Does the filter come off the motor?
Treated where it sits, on this service, so no. We will not get filters off or bolt them back on, in either direction.
The light reappears — then what?
Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Crag Foot.
