Mobile DPF Cleaning around Cottam, Lancashire
With call-out DPF cleaning, we travel to the vehicle. A technician arrives at your place in Cottam, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Nobody sets off until the number is agreed by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
The light is already on and the motor is short of power — that is how we normally come across people, and what this page covers.
DPF light on? What to do
It could not be the unit in the end. That is the opening thing. A clean is not where a visit begins. A diagnostic is — several faults register as the same warning.
The driving you do in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- A long even run may yet do it, provided the light is amber and the motor drives normally. Costs nothing, so have a go at that before booking.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then shut.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop arranging long drives and get it checked.
What the car has been warning you
The light is last news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been building for weeks:
- tailing off on power, especially uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull as before
- fuel economy getting worse
- stop/start quietly packing in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
None of that is proof on its own. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is there too.
Why diesel particulate filters clog near Cottam
Cottam is a rural village, and the motoring that belongs to one is the least kind sort for a DPF. A regeneration takes the time and heat, and has not much: not on the school run to Cottam Primary School, not on Hoyle's Lane at half eight, not on ten minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the dash to Salwick. What should burn away stays put.
Save when you have a standing cause to drive out to the M55, under a mile from Cottam, or out to Preston under 5 miles away, entire weeks go by without a sustained stint. Geography is no help.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode is. A sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode blocks: power limited, revs kept low, no regeneration available.
The common advice — get it up the motorway — is sound, until it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that line: treatment is what will work, not more driving.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated round Cottam
The filter does not budge. That is the bit most people do not see coming: the job takes place with the DPF still fitted to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can sit for a few hours.
The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by percent and by mass, along with a review of sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the motor's own entry point, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration never can. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to take doing twice.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Cottam; if not, on the spot where the vehicle sits, with the real-time data read once done.
Then a second check, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and listing anything still logged. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.
Where cleaning is not the answer
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- temperature or pressure sensors showing a blockage that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- the AdBlue system failing
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever starts
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's job. Proving to be one of them means finding out it before any work begins, not after handing over anything.
Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a working DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the term people type in, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is cleaned in place and returned into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
What DPF cleaning comes to across Cottam
The clean begins from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that comes with it.
Publishing a flat rate would not be honest. We settle it on the phone, once the vehicle and its expected needs are known. The car changes it, and so does the postcode — Cottam, Lower Bartle, or anywhere further out in the PR postcode area.
Where the check says cleaning will not do it, you are not asked to pay for cleaning. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless holds.
The work includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Cottam if the light reappears inside that window.
Fast and reliable service. Highly recommended, my Mazda 3 had a clogged DPF and I called DPF fixer, job was done in a timely manner.
Dan was fabulous and courteous. He did mention before the clean that the DPF was nearly empty and it was up to me still go ahead with the clean. The clean was performed and the number did improve. Great advice and prompt service. Highly recommended.
Dave was great and really knowledgeable, was polite enough to call me letting me know his arrival time. He cleaned my dpf in about an hour and even gave me some advice on further maintenance on my BMW. Thanks Dave.
Where we reach round Cottam, and what we clean
The filter is cleaned where it sits on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Week in week out there is by then someone on Hoyle's Lane, so Cottam rarely means a journey of its own, and Lower Bartle, Ingol and the places past Swillbrook follow. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring even from farther out through Lancashire.

What Cottam drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- It might, provided you catch it early and limp mode has not arrived. That means motorway speed for a long run, rather than a quick trip to Co-op Food.
- The visit runs how long?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly blocked.
- How much does it come to across Cottam?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for the call-out that covers the check and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both shift the figure, so we quote on the phone.
- Is it necessary for me to be there?
- The car wants a space for two hours or so. You need not be in it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
- Travelling to Cottam — how soon?
- That depends on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is free across the PR area.
- Is the filter removed from the vehicle?
- Done where it stands, on this service, so no. We do not take filters off or bolt them back on, either way.
- The light reappears — then what?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Cottam.
