- Get it looked at rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
What the motor has been showing you
Symptoms have generally been growing for some time before the light ever shows. Late news, in other words:
- power tailing off, especially pulling uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they once did
- worse fuel use
- quietly, the stop/start packs in
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears
That is not evidence by itself. The light beside them points at a blocked filter.
The cause diesel particulate filters clog around Cil
Being a small village, Cil produces precisely the use a DPF handles worst. Hollowing the filter out is not a fix: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the phrase people look up, though nothing is swapped — your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use. Two more worth noting.
