Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Chidden, Hampshire
Sorting the DPF happens at the car, not at a body shop. Your car isn't taken off and the filter does not come off. A fitter turns up at your address across Chidden, cleans the diesel particulate filter still on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
If the light is on already and the vehicle is down on power, this page is the right one. That is how most drivers arrive here.
What to try when the DPF light is on
First thing: it is not automatically the DPF. That light can arise from a number of faults, not merely one, so the visit begins with a diagnostic and not with a clean.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then matters.
- A long constant run may yet manage it, provided the light is amber and the car goes as normal. Costs zero, so have a go at that before calling.
- Car already gone into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the stage to stop planning long drives and call.
The car has been showing you already
The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been building for some time:
- power dropping away, especially pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull as before
- fuel use turning worse
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.
Why diesel particulate filters choke near Chidden
For a DPF, the worst use is the sort you get across a rural hamlet such as Chidden. The school run to Hambledon Primary School, Green Lane at a halt at half eight, five minutes to The Co-operative Food, the run to Rowlands Castle — not one bit of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. The unburnt soot collects rather than burning off.
Save when you have a routine reason to head out to the Waterlooville Bypass, under 5 miles from Chidden, or over to Portsmouth under 15 miles away, whole weeks pass without a long steady stint. Geography is no help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. The real catch is that a sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.
So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, right until it stops being. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are past that line, and the filter requires a clean rather than more driving.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done in Chidden
Nothing comes off the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can wait for a few hours.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are ruled out. That involves a check first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related hardware.
Then the clean. A solution is fed in through the access point on that vehicle and spreads inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. A second pass is sometimes called for on badly clogged filters.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Chidden if you are there, or a static regeneration where the motor sits, with the running data checked once done.
Both read-outs go over by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second scan is what confirms the change, resets the light and lists whatever is still showing.
Where cleaning is not the solution
One thing is what a clean answers — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- the wrong reading from a temperature or pressure sensor
- the EGR valve stuck open
- the AdBlue system failing
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting whatsoever
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
The first diagnostic is there for just that. You are warned before any work gets going, not after you have handed over, should it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no remedy. What gets looked up as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your own filter is cleaned in place and goes back into work.
What DPF cleaning comes to in Chidden
Treatment begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
The figure is agreed by the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be honest. Two things shift it: what you own, and where you are — Chidden itself, across at Clanfield, or otherwise out in the PO postcode area.
Where the check says treatment will not help, you are not billed for cleaning. You still pay that charge: someone travelled, did the diagnostic and passed on you the advice.
If the light comes back inside that time, an engineer comes back out to Chidden — the job carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
Great work by the team. Managed to restore my dpf to as good as new. Very reliable and great service by Darius. Highly recommended.
Exceptional service, Logan was polite and personable. Explained the process and aftercare clearly, ensuring that everything was in order before asking for payment and leaving.
Booked late Wednesday and the job done on the Friday. Igor the technical was brilliant. He explained how the cleaning work and gave aftercare guidance too. Slight downside is the cost at £420 a pop.
What we clean, and how far we reach around Chidden
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Most weeks there is already someone on Green Lane, so Chidden rarely means a special trip, and Clanfield, Brockbridge and the places past Hambledon follow. Call anyway from further out through Hampshire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the date you are offered depends on the diary rather than how far away you are.

What Chidden drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- If you catch it in time, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to The Co-operative Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for some time, will.
- The visit takes how long?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly loaded.
- What does it come to around Chidden?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; treatment itself opens from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why quoting is done by phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- No. The vehicle requires a spot to wait for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. Choosing to be there is welcome: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- When can someone get to Chidden?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is usual. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the PO area has open.
- Is the filter lifted off the motor?
- It is treated where it is, on the call-out service. Getting a filter off or putting one back on amount to anything work we do whichever way.
- And if the light returns?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Chidden.
