Calton, Staffordshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Mobile DPF cleaning goes to the car. An engineer turns up at your door in Calton, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.

You'll have a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.

Most owners find us with the light on already, and the vehicle short of power. That is the position this page is meant for.

The DPF light is on. What now?

The filter is not automatically what is at fault, and that leads. That light can follow plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with cleaning.

It counts what you do with the motor between now and the appointment.

  • Worth a shot before you ring anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one even run, no charge.
  • Vehicle already fallen into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
  • A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the point to stop booking long drives and call.

What the vehicle has been showing you

By the time the light shows, things have normally been slipping for a while. It is belated news:

  • going uphill, the power tails off
  • the revs no longer pull the way they always did
  • economy that is worse than it used to be
  • the stop/start without a word giving up
  • the car smelling of diesel, or smoke when you pull away

Alone, none of that is conclusive. With the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.

Why diesel particulate filters clog near Calton

Being a rural village, Calton produces just the driving a DPF manages the poorest. None of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Ilam Church of England Primary School, Back Lane standing at the morning rush, five minutes to Aldi, the dash to Uttoxeter. Unburnt soot that should burn away builds up instead.

Geography does not assist either. The M6 is under 25 miles from Calton and Stoke-on-Trent is under 15 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, whole weeks go by without the long steady run that might scour the filter alone.

Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration

Limp mode is the car defending itself. A long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode prevents: power limited, revs kept low, no regeneration available.

So the usual advice to get it up the motorway is sound advice, until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: a clean is what will do it, not more driving.

Where the motor stands is where the DPF is treated across Calton

Most people do not see coming this bit: the filter stays put. The job is done with the DPF even now fitted to the car — on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can stand for a while.

A check happens first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and connected components, so other faults are cleared before a thing is started.

A solution after that is fed in through the access point on that vehicle, opening out inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. A second pass is sometimes needed on badly blocked filters.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Calton, with you present, or it is done where the vehicle sits and the running data is verified after.

Both read-outs are sent by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second check is what confirms the change, puts out the light and notes whatever is still showing.

When a DPF clean is not the fix

A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment cures. It will not touch:

  • pressure or temperature sensors flagging a block that is not there
  • the EGR valve stuck open
  • an AdBlue system problem
  • a regeneration that simply never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo

The first diagnostic is there for just that. Where it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work begins rather than after you have paid for it.

A couple more worth noting. Having the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleared in place and returned into use.

The clean begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that goes with it.

The price is settled by the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be straight. Where you are tells as much as what you own: Calton itself, Back oth Brook close by, or otherwise out in the ST postcode area.

Where the diagnostic says a clean will not work, you are not charged for treatment. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless applies.

If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer travels back out to Calton — the work carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.

Thank you Nic, you have done a great job for me today. DPF cleaned and all warning lights cleared, drives like new.

Just as it says on the tin, brilliant work by Ethan first class would fully recommend this service.

Phillip C.

The technician who came to clean the dpf did a great job, the clean didn't cure the problem but did put me in the right direction with the issue. Would recommend but hopefully won't need them again. Vehicle was a MAN tgl 8/150.

Where we get to round Calton, and what we clean

Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — the one on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.

Most weeks there is already someone on Back Lane, so Calton hardly ever means a special trip, and Back oth Brook, Ilam and the places past Cauldon come with it. Farther out around Staffordshire is nonetheless worth phoning about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that settles between today and tomorrow.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning in Calton

Does a long run clear it?
If you catch it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. That means motorway speed for a long stretch, rather than a quick trip to Aldi.
Roughly how long does it last?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely clogged filter can take cleaning twice, which takes longer.
Price in Calton — what is it?
Treatment begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we quote on the phone.
Must I be around in person?
No. The motor needs somewhere to wait for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be run as a watched drive if you would prefer to ride along.
Travelling to Calton — how soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is open across the ST area.
The filter — does it come off the vehicle?
Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it is. We do not take filters off or fit them back on, whichever way.
Suppose the light returns?
An engineer heads back out to Calton — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
