The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been building for weeks:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they used to
- the fuel economy is worse
- stop/start without a word bowing out
- the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
That is not evidence alone. The light alongside them points at a blocked filter.
