The DPF is not automatically what is wrong, and that goes first. That light can arise from plenty of faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with a clean.

- Worth a go before you call anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one constant run, no charge.
- Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not touch it now.

Before the light, what the car was telling you
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to grow for some time before it arrives:
- power falling off, especially going uphill
- you see the revs fall short of where they once went
- worse fuel economy
- the stop/start quietly bowing out
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gears
On its own, none of that is proof. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair guess.
Why diesel particulate filters clog round Brown Edge
