Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Blackgate, Angus
With mobile DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. Your motor is not taken away and the filter does not leave it. A fitter arrives at your door across Blackgate, cleans the diesel particulate filter still on the car and carries out a DPF regeneration.
You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the car down on power. That is the position this page is aimed at.
Your DPF light is on — what next?
The filter is not always what is wrong, and that goes first. Plenty of faults put the very same light on the identical dash, which is why a visit begins with a scan rather than with treatment.
How the vehicle is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Worth a go before you book anything: amber light, vehicle driving fine, just one constant run, no outlay.
- Once the car is in limp mode, motoring will not reach it. The window has shut.
- Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Signs the car has been showing you
The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been growing for some time:
- less power, above all climbing uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they once did
- worse fuel economy
- the stop/start silently bowing out
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under the throttle
Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. The light beside them indicates a loaded filter.
Blocked diesel particulate filters round Blackgate, and the why
For a DPF, the least kind use is the kind you find in a rural hamlet such as Blackgate. Think about a normal week: the local primary school and back, B9134 at a crawl before half nine, a quick trip to Tesco, a run to the nearest station. None of it there lasts long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. The soot that should burn off banks up instead.
The map does not oblige either. The M90 is under 50 miles from Blackgate and Dundee is under 25 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way routinely, whole weeks pass without the long steady run that might clear the filter on its own.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
The car is protecting itself, which is what limp mode means. Power is capped, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter requires can not complete — which is the entire catch, because a proper drive works by setting off that regeneration.
So the usual advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, until the day it is not. The far side of that stage — limp mode — road work will not manage it, and the filter needs treatment.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is cleaned in Blackgate
Nothing comes off the car. That surprises people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for a few hours.
The ECU is read first, reporting soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected components, so nothing is started while another fault is still in play.
Then the treatment. A cleaning fluid is injected through the access port on that car and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to need doing twice.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has loosened. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Blackgate; if not, in place where the car sits, with the live data verified once done.
A second scan confirms the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures on record.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
Only one fault is fixed by cleaning: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does little for:
- temperature or pressure sensors reporting a block that is not there
- the EGR valve jammed open
- AdBlue system problems
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting at all
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
Finding that out is the first scan's whole job. Where one of those proves the fault, you learn of it up front rather than once the money has left for good.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth noting.
What DPF cleaning comes to in Blackgate
A call-out charge stands whatever follows, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice passed on. Treatment itself opens from £299.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the price is agreed by the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. The vehicle shifts it, and so does the postcode — Blackgate, Lunanhead, or a spot otherwise out in the DD postcode area.
Where the check says treatment will not help, you are not billed for a clean. What still holds is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the check was done and the advice was passed on.
If the light reappears inside that time, an engineer comes back out to Blackgate — the clean carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
Nic turned up ran through everything, explained very well and carried out the job professionally, very very pleased with what he has done and really nice chap to talk too of if I need anything else I'll 100% be in touch thanks to him. John.
This morning, Ashley arrived to perform DPF full clean, very informative, and personable, resolved issue thoroughly and advised preventative measures, would use again.
The engineer came next day on time and did a full diagnosis. In the end he said my DPF was only 20% full so did not require the DPF clean. I paid for the call out only so they are honest people. Would definitely recommend this company without hesitation.
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to around Blackgate
Cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural machinery — the one on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done in place rather than taken anywhere.
The same round that puts our engineers on B9134 most weeks covers Blackgate, Lunanhead, Rescobie and the places beyond Kingsmuir. Call anyway from farther out across Angus. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the day you are given depends on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Blackgate drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- Sometimes, if you spot it early enough and the motor has not dropped into limp mode. That requires motorway speed for a steady run, rather than a short trip to Tesco.
- How long does the visit run?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — badly blocked filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
- Cost in Blackgate — what is it?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that takes in the check and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both change the figure, so we settle it on the phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- The motor requires a place for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive instead.
- How soon can someone get to Blackgate?
- That hangs on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is free across the DD area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Treated where it sits, on this service, so no. We will not lift filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
- The light returns — then what?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Blackgate.
