Bank, Hampshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we come to the motor. A fitter arrives at your door in Bank, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
You'll be given a figure by phone before anyone departs, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
Written for the situation most drivers are in: the light on already, the car starved for power, and the clean still to book.
Your DPF light is on — what next?
It may not be the filter at all. That is the main thing. Treatment is not where a visit starts. A check is — a number of faults register as the same light.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then counts.
- A long steady run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle drives fine. Costs nothing at all, so attempt that before ringing.
- Motor already gone into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.
Before the light, what the motor was showing you
By the time the light shows, things have normally been going wrong for some time. It is last news:
- power tailing off, above all pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull as before
- consumption that is worse than it used to be
- stop/start silently bowing out
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.
Choked diesel particulate filters round Bank, and the why
The driving that comes with a rural village like Bank is the worst sort for a DPF. The school run to St Michael and All Angels CofE Infant School, Pinkney Lane at a halt at the morning rush, ten minutes to Morrisons, the run to Brockenhurst — none of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. What should burn away stays behind.
The M27 lies under 5 miles from Bank, Southampton under 10 miles away, and unless something carries you out that way often, whole weeks pass without the long unbroken run that scours a filter. Geography does not help.
DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode stops it
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode means. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter requires can not complete — which is the entire problem, because a proper drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the day it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are past that point, and the filter wants a clean rather than more driving.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is treated in Bank
The filter does not budge. That is the part most owners do not see coming: the job takes place with the DPF still bolted to the motor, on your front, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can stand for a couple of hours.
First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a figure, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected parts — all of it taken before any of it is touched.
A cleaning fluid after that goes in through the access point on that motor, spreading inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely blocked filters.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Bank, with you present, or it is done where the car waits and the real-time data is checked once done.
A second scan verifies the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still open. Both reports are emailed, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
Only one fault is cured by cleaning: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a block that is not real
- an EGR valve held open
- AdBlue system problems
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration running whatsoever
- turbo problems, with oil entering the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's job. You are told before the work begins, not after you have handed over, if it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth noting. Leaving the filter gutted is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your existing filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.
Costs for DPF cleaning around Bank
A call-out charge stands whatever happens, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice given. Cleaning itself begins from £299.
Once we know what you own, and about what the filter will want, the number gets fixed on the phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you own: Bank itself, Emery Down nearby, or otherwise out across the SO postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the scan says will not work. The call-out charge nonetheless applies, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Bank if the light reappears inside the period.
Polite prompt service and explained everything at each stage and other issues that cropped up during the clean out. Running very well and am very pleased with the service.
Daniel did a great job and my truck was back up and running super quick! Arrived on time and very happy!
excellent service. Daniel kept us informed of what he was doing step by step. he was very knowledgeable and nothing was a trouble to him. would definitely recommend this service.
Where we get to near Bank, and what we clean
Whatever it is — estate, van, light commercial, lorry, plant, construction machinery, farm vehicle — the very same mobile service applies, and the filter never departs it.
Engineers are along Pinkney Lane nearly every week, so Bank is rarely a journey of its own, and the same run covers Emery Down, Lyndhurst and the spots out past Minstead. Phone anyway from further out across Hampshire. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you are given comes down to the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning in Bank
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Sometimes, if you get it in time and the vehicle has not fallen into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to Morrisons and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit last long?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — badly blocked filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
- How much does it run to across Bank?
- Cleaning starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you own and where you live both shift the figure.
- Do I have to be present?
- The vehicle needs a spot for two hours or so. You need not be in it. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- Getting to Bank — how soon?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is available across the SO area.
- Is the filter lifted off the car?
- Done where it is, on this service, so no. And neither does lifting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- An engineer comes back out to Bank — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
