Aston-by-Stone, Staffordshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The car remains in place — on-site DPF cleaning travels to it. No workshop, no filter leaving. A technician drives out to your door in Aston-by-Stone, cleans the diesel particulate filter as it sits, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
You'll be given a price by phone before anyone leaves, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
Most drivers find us with the light already on, and the car short of power. That is exactly what this page is meant for.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. A check happens before all treatment, because that same dashboard light has several likely faults behind it.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then matters.
- A long even run may even now manage it, provided the light is amber and the motor runs fine. Costs zero, so have a go at that before calling.
- Once the car is in limp mode, driving will not reach it. The window has shut.
- Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
The motor has been telling you already
The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have usually been growing for a while:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- fuel use getting worse
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. Alongside the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
What chokes diesel particulate filters around Aston-by-Stone
Being a rural village, Aston-by-Stone produces exactly the driving a DPF handles worst. None of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to St Michael's CofE (C) First School, Stone Road barely moving at the morning rush, five minutes to Aldi, the dash to Norton Bridge. Instead of clearing, the soot load collects.
Neither is distant from Aston-by-Stone: under 3 miles to the M6, under 15 miles to Stoke-on-Trent. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the journey that would clear a filter hardly ever comes.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
Limp mode is the motor protecting itself. The real catch is that a proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not rise and power is capped.
Sound advice, that motorway run — up until the day it is not. The filter wants cleaning rather than driving once the motor has slipped into limp mode.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands in Aston-by-Stone
Most drivers do not see coming this detail: the filter stays put. The job is done with the DPF yet bolted to the vehicle — on your front, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can stand for a few hours.
Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That means a check first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and connected parts.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never budge are loosened after that, by a solution fed through the access point on that car, which opens out inside the filter. Where the filter is severely blocked, plan on a second pass.
What the clean has freed is then cleared by a regeneration. Come with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Aston-by-Stone. Park it and the regeneration is done in place, with live data read once it is done.
Both sets of figures are sent by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what verifies the change, resets the light and notes whatever is still showing.
What a DPF clean will not fix
One thing is what cleaning answers — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- pressure or temperature sensors flagging a block that is not there
- EGR valves that hang open
- AdBlue system problems
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- turbo trouble, with oil reaching the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. When it turns out to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have handed over a penny.
A couple more worth bearing in mind. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your original filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.
The cost for DPF cleaning in Aston-by-Stone
Every visit takes a call-out charge — getting to you, making the booking, running the diagnostic and giving the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
Once we know what you drive, and broadly what the filter will need, the figure gets settled by phone. A single price for everyone would not be honest. Two separate things move it: what you own, and where you are — Aston-by-Stone itself, out at Whitgreave, or further out across the ST postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for a clean that the check says will not do it. Because the visit, the check and the advice have been done, the call-out charge nonetheless applies.
The work carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Aston-by-Stone if the light reappears inside that window.

What Aston-by-Stone drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Sometimes, if you get it early enough and the car has not fallen into limp mode. A long run at motorway speed is what it takes — not ten minutes to Aldi and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — severely loaded filters sometimes need a second pass, which extends it.
- What does it run to in Aston-by-Stone?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for the call-out that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both shift the figure, so we settle it on the phone.
- Is it necessary for me to be there?
- You need not stand with it — the car only needs space to sit for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is fine: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- Can someone come to Aston-by-Stone soon?
- That hangs on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the ST area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- It is cleaned where it sits, on the call-out service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Aston-by-Stone.
