Ashe, Hampshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The motor remains where it is — on-site DPF cleaning travels to it. No workshop, no filter coming off. A technician drives out to your place over in Ashe, treats the diesel particulate filter in place, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the price is agreed over the phone before anyone leaves.
If the light is on already and the car is down on power, this page is yours. That is how most owners end up here.
The DPF light is on. What now?
First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. That light can come from several faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with a clean.
How the car is driven in the meantime matters too.
- Amber light, vehicle still driving fine — a long steady run can even now sort it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth attempting before you call anything.
- Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not shift it. The window has gone.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the cabin stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.
Signs the car has been giving you
Symptoms have generally been growing for some time before the light even appears. Last news, in other words:
- going uphill, the power falls off
- revs that will not rise the way they once did
- the fuel use is poorer
- stop/start without a word giving up
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
That is not evidence on its own. The light beside them suggests a full filter.
The reason diesel particulate filters clog round Ashe
Being a rural hamlet, Ashe generates exactly the motoring a DPF manages least well. Look at a normal week: Overton Church of England Primary School and home again, Ashe Lane at a crawl before half nine, a quick trip to Co-op Food, a hop to Overton. Nothing there lasts long enough or gets hot enough to finish a regeneration. The soot banks up rather than burning off.
Except when you have a standing cause to head out to the M3, under 5 miles from Ashe, or over to Winchester under 15 miles away, whole weeks go by without a sustained stint. Geography is no help.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
The vehicle is defending itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. With power held down and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter wants will not complete at all. That tells, because triggering one is precisely what a sustained run does.
The standard advice — run it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are beyond that line, and the filter needs a clean rather than driving.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands in Ashe
Nothing comes off the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for a few hours.
First a check. Live ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it taken before any of it is touched.
Next comes the clean itself: solution in through the motor's own access port, expanding inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration cannot. Severely blocked filters sometimes require a second pass.
A regeneration is next, burning off what the clean has loosened. Come with the car and it turns into a monitored drive out of Ashe. Drop it and the regeneration runs on the spot, with running data read once it is done.
Then a second diagnostic, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and listing anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not touch
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing treatment cures. It will not reach:
- the wrong figure from a temperature or pressure sensor
- EGR valves that stick open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing at all
- turbo trouble, with oil reaching the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. When it proves to be one of those, you are warned before any work starts rather than after you have settled up for it.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no remedy. What gets searched for as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your own filter is cleared in place and goes back into work.
Costs for DPF cleaning around Ashe
The treatment begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that comes with it.
Not one flat rate would be straight, so the price is fixed over the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. The motor moves it, and so does the address — Ashe, Deane, or a spot further out in the RG postcode area.
You are not billed for cleaning that the diagnostic says will not work. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge still holds.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Ashe.
They service was really good and I really liked how they explained everything to me so that I made sense to me as well.

What Ashe drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- Sometimes, if you get it in time and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. Ten minutes to Co-op Food and back will not be enough; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
- The visit runs how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily clogged filter can require a second clean, which lengthens that.
- What does it run to across Ashe?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the scan and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the number.
- Do I have to be present?
- Space for the car to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. Preferring to be there is fine: the regeneration then is done out on the road, monitored.
- How soon can someone travel to Ashe?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is free across the RG area.
- Is the filter lifted off the motor?
- Done where it sits, on this service, so no. And neither does lifting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Ashe.
