Yate, Gloucestershire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The motor sits where it is — mobile DPF cleaning comes to it. No garage, no filter going anywhere. An engineer drives out to your address in Yate, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.
You'll have a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
The light is already on and the car is short of power — that is how we generally find people, and roughly what this page deals with.
The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the filter, automatically. Main thing to say. A number of faults put the very same light on the same dashboard, which is why a visit starts with a diagnostic rather than with a clean.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, vehicle still driving as normal — a long constant run can even now clear it by itself. Costs zero, and worth a try before you ring anything.
- That window has shut once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Motoring will not do it now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop arranging long drives and get it looked at.
What the vehicle has been showing you
Symptoms have generally been building for some time before the light ever arrives. Late news, in other words:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- you find the revs fall short of where they used to go
- fuel use that is worse than before
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
None of that is proof by itself. With the light with them, the filter is a fair bet.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke near Yate
Yate is a riverside town, and the day-to-day driving that goes with one is the least kind sort for a DPF. None of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to St Mary's Church of England Primary School, Yate, Station Road crawling at half past eight, a few minutes to Morrisons, the dash to the nearest station. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning off.
Geography does not oblige either. The M4 is under 3 miles from Yate and Bristol is under 10 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way regularly, weeks pass without the long steady run that would clear the filter by itself.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode ends it
Limp mode is the car looking after itself. A proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode blocks: power held down, revs kept low, no regeneration available.
Taking it up the motorway is the common advice, and it works as far as a line. The filter requires treatment rather than road work once the car has gone into limp mode.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the car stands across Yate
The filter does not budge. That is the bit most drivers do not expect: the job takes place with the DPF yet fitted to the car, on your front, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a couple of hours.
Nothing is touched until other faults are ruled out. That involves a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated components.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution is injected through the entry point on that motor and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. A second pass is sometimes needed on heavily blocked filters.
A regeneration comes next, burning off what the clean has lifted. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Yate, with you there, or it goes where the vehicle stands and the real-time data is checked once done.
Both sets of figures are sent by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what confirms the change, resets the light and notes whatever is still showing.
The problems a DPF clean cannot answer
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning cures. It will not reach:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a restriction that is not real
- the EGR valve stuck open
- an AdBlue system failure
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
- oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo
The first check is there for exactly that. Where one of those proves the fault, you hear about it in advance rather than once the money has changed hands for good.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no solution. What gets typed in as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into service.
DPF cleaning charges across Yate
Any visit takes a call-out charge — travelling to you, taking the booking, carrying out the diagnostic and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.
Not one flat rate would be honest, so the number is agreed by the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. The motor moves it, and so does the address — Yate, Nibley, or anywhere farther out in the BS postcode area.
If the scan counts cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. Because the visit, the check and the advice have happened, the call-out charge still stands.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Yate.
Daz was knowledgeable and friendly he explained exactly what he was doing and the process involved and within 45mins my dpf was clear and my vehicle was back running smoothly. 10 out of 10 very pleased.
Excellent service provided by DPF Fixer. They checked the computer system and cleaned the catalytic converter. After they reset and took readings to show improvements. An excellent service provided. Would recommend this company.

Where we reach around Yate, and what we clean
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
The same trip that puts technicians on Station Road most weeks takes in Yate, Nibley, Engine Common and the spots beyond Chipping Sodbury. Call anyway from even further out through Gloucestershire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the date you get comes down to the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Things Yate drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Sometimes, if you get it in time and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. It takes a long run at motorway speed, not ten minutes to Morrisons and back.
- Roughly how long does it run?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is heavily clogged.
- Cost in Yate — what is it?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we settle it on the phone.
- Must I be around in person?
- No. The car wants somewhere to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Wanting to be there is no problem: the regeneration then runs out on the move, monitored.
- When can someone travel to Yate?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the calendar. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the BS area has open.
- Is the filter taken off the car?
- Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it sits. We will not get filters off or bolt them back on, in either direction.
- The light reappears — then what?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Yate.
